Florida No. 2 in polls, 3 in RPI

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida moved up two spots in the national polls after racking up two more blowout SEC wins last week, vaulting all the way up to No. 2. It's the highest national ranking for the Gators in the AP and Coaches Poll since they won a national title in 2007.

Senior Kenny Boynton's strong play has helped push the Gators all the way to No. 2 in the national polls.

Billy Donovan's defensive-minded team received seven of 65 first-place votes in the AP Poll, with No. 1 Indiana receiving the rest. The Gators also received six of 31 votes in the Coaches Poll, trailing No. 1 Indiana.

More importantly, Florida moved up two spots in the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index from No. 5 to No. 3. The RPI is a component used by the NCAA Tournament selection committee to help determine seeding.

Duke currently ranks No. 1 in the RPI, followed by No. 2 Miami.

Florida has a 5-2 record against current RPI Top 50 teams and an 8-2 record against current RPI Top 100 teams. The Gators still have three games left against current RPI Top 50 teams and five games left against current RPI Top 100 teams.
