With the demise of the ACC...

  • What is holding the SEC back from taking FSU and Clemson to make it a 16 team superpower conference?

Please excuse my ignorance ahead of time if the forum has debated the topic previously.

(I know it's UF / FSU week, but I come in peace with an alternative topic)

The rumor for years was UF and SC would stick together blocking FSU and Clemson.

your history of cheating and 'AA run-ins for a start..then add in you bring nothing that the SEC doesn't already have in UF. FSU best bet is the Big 12.

  • Honestly wouldn't mind seeing FSU in the SEC. UF plays them every year anyways so why not let them get owned by other SEC teams every year and let them quit saying the SEC is overrated. Never going to happen though, FSU had its chance and now they are in the dying conference.

    Ok...

That doesn't explain the "why" part of the answer... Why is UF and USCe so against bringing either into the conference?

And let them steal recruits who think that FSU is even more awesomely appealing now that they're in a big boy conference and will get to play against actual teams every year? Pass. Let them pretend being king of the weaklings in football is important.

  • I don't care either way honestly

I love to see FSU and Clemson in the SEC because they seem like SEC schools and it would be fun to travel to Clemson for a game.

We would take FSU off our OOC schedule which means we would be more likely to schedule Miami, or somebody else from around the country.

What does FSU and Clemson bring to the SEC? Good teams yeah, but there are also other good teams in states where the SEC does not currently have a team. Conference realignment isn't about getting great teams, it's all about the mula.

Recruiting is irrelevant - FSU and UF both recruit at high levels; maybe I can draw you that picture...

Are you referring to the 50 million buyout? UMD is about to debunk that myth as we speak with proper litigation...

I can explain it to you, but I can't comprehend it for you f'boy. When's the last time an ACC team won a natty? How about an SEC team? See the recruiting advantage yet?

"We're still debating what that figure is and how we're going to deal with it," she said. - in reference to the buy out.

FSU is already getting great recruits, the SEC would help a little but it's not like they are in desperate need to get recruits, they had the #1 class last year. It would help FSU with recruiting but not significantly, they are going to get theirs and UF is going to get ours.

    Logically - yes.

But in reality, has that been the difference in recruiting rankings / getting prospects over the last five years? You are assuming that FSU would recruit at a HIGHER level than UF if FSU was let into the SEC, no? I'm not sure how much higher FSU can recruit though, because both are recruiting at the highest level around the country...

When the SEC looked to add teams, it went for schools that could add tv regions not already held. Thus, Mizz and Tex region. FSU does not add value to the SEC in that terms, would not lead to a more lucrative tv deal. Also, UF and USC were reported to have denied the inclusion because it would hurt in the recruiting department and not add value to their own programs. Virgina Tech was an ACC school that had a better chance of becoming a SEC school. The benefits for the SEC to take FSU and Clemson are less than the perceived negatives
