  • Really hope we don't offer....no offense to this kid, but he is a tweener, and most of the time these under the radar late big man takes by UF transfer out and never pan out...ie Larson, Pitchford, etc....Yeguette is the rare exception who worked out....and even he is just a good role player.....if you are down to possibly offering kids like this, why not take Drekalo Clayton early from FL when you could have, who is better IMO.....

  • So no Randle.

indeed, Rimmer is top 150 caliber big. can shoot, and is tough...but he chose to leave, we wanted him

  • Reality is, not getting 1 of Rimmer or Embiid will really hurt us long term...not next season, but after that....in 14-15. we are looking at Harris as a SR, and whatever project we grab as a big late in 2013, and whoever we land in 2014 class as bigs (awful class for bigs and we are not in good shape with any elite kids) as our post players in 14-15 season....I would bet Rimmer and Embiis go on to have very good careers at KU and Stanford....

well bullis, its kinda disappointing to see our staff do so poorly on the recruiting trail. its not looking as good as i thought for 2014. our staff needs to capitalize our some top notch recruits or we will be in trouble,

    rly?

I think thats exactly what he is... he may be a good one that we all like but he isnt anything more than a guy that we ask to play good D and clean the boards.

  • Horrible on the recruiting trail? Got 2 5 star prospects. Don't thing that's not to shabby. Not doubting we could use a big though.

I think you're confusing "role player" with what his strengths are. I mean, if you describe "role player" by being more proficient on defense than offense, were a team full of role players.

Yegs is really effective offensively. Sets great picks, has good hands, and good court vision. Its a plus that he's even better on D.

  • Will grab a big that gets out of his LOI this year and redshirt IMO

This. Not to mention the two transfers who were highly sought after. You have to recruit those guys to your school too. That's four big time players the coaches have recruited to UF in the last year or so.

  • I'd like to see UF take a closer look at Demetrius Henry...a great rebounding banger out of N FLA that is a legit 6 9" 225lb....take the banger...look at Montrezl Harrell for L'ville ....that kid is going to be a 4yr bruiser who has value in a 7-8 man rotation + think D Henry can be a good practice kid and give UF 10 min next yr if P Y goes pro and D Harris / C Walker have to man the 4/5 spots most of game with DFS / Prather playing some 4 also

UF recruiting has been too inconsistent prior to last class....cant have yrs where sign Nimrod Tishman, then take a flyer on Scottie W (as a 16yr old) - fortunately hugely worked out, Cody Larson, Walt Pitchford and Will Y (Will only one worked out)

why signed Dillon Graham?? dont expect him to play much at UF or be an impact guy .....same for Devon Walker -- kid needs 3yrs in the gym to have any chance of being anything beyond a less skilled 4/3 in our sets

too many recruiting misses IMO....BD needs to maintain continuity on the staff and close on top 75 national recruits from the Southeast as primary focus....load up on Mike Frazier types & if going to reach for a recruit , miss with a guy with excellent measurables/athleticism vs an undersized kid IMO (prather/yeguette are good 3*/4* type recruits also)

if we sign 2-3 guys each year that look and feel like a Mike F / Erik Murphy / Prather etc at the various positions of need, gives us oppty to redshirt a guy / develop them & then mix in the 1-2 McD AAs we can get (Beal's , K Hill, C Walker ...P Young/KB etc) and we will be primed for a NC run + mix in an opportunistic transfer / JUCO and really creates a solid 8 man core of players

We basically have 3 wings that are taking up schollys this year and do not need desperately (BO, DG, DevWalk)....instead of 1-2 of those guys should have been a 4/5 prospect to develop this yr behind Pat and D Harris

all is not lost though IMO for 2014...skeptical DFS is a 1 & done....kid avg 6 & 7 w/ a 35% shooting line as a frosh at VTech...all the talent in the world but hard to say kid is going to take such a monumental leap to be a quick 1 & done....dont get how a change of scenery suddenly makes a quality / potential future pro a 1 & done type leap (see ryan harrow hype this summer)

also expect Damont Harris to be at UF 2 yrs....so solid core w/ MFII / DFS/ D Harris & maybe Hill and/or Chris Walker (as Sophmores).....plus add in 1-2 frosh recruits + maybe 1-2 transfers = top 10-15 squad at a minimum

Henry ship sailed long ago for UF....we never recruited him much in 2012, and have not after he relcassed to 2013...I would be very surprised if he goes anywhere other than Miami, where he walks unto immediate FR PT, ready or not...and I am no doom and gloom like some in this thread...just don't want to reach on a 6'6" PF at this point..that is not going to keep us at an elite level or help us take next step....as for Graham, he is a legit prospect, who had commitabel offers from Self (KU) Pitino (UL) FSU, UF and many others after last summer AAU season...Walker was always the head scratcher to me....super skinny SF who needs years to develop and we did not need to grab.....I think there is a fair chance he and/or Ogbueze leave after this season...we will see...I would bet we grab a transfer after this season, but more likely a guard IMO..I agree always thought Henry needed a closer look...Rimmer killed Henry head to head btw.....

    Bullis33

  • Not sure we need a guard, unless he is ready to start day one. In regard to DFS, kid was playing the 4 as a skinny freshman at VT. Combine a year of UF training and playing the 3 in our system ( ideal for his skillset ) and a 1 and done is a possibility. Not sure how you compare his freshman season to what he will be asked to do next year. JMO

Would like to see us grab a 6'8 - 9 kid that steps out of a LOI. A definite need if Pat, Walker, Will, Prather leave next year.

a kid from Queens with grade issues...sounds like a St. Johns lock to me lol...

  • I am in the group that is puzzled by going after a 6'6" guy. Now perhaps either Finney-Smith is going to be one and done or a 4 at UF. That would mean next year the 3 would be a SR in Prather and Soph in D. Walker. Thus this move might give UF a two deep at the 3 in 2014-15.
