UM deserves all the criticism he gets for the way he left and and how he left us and if I asked him that in person he would probably admit it.

Please, ask him that in person and see if he admits it. This should be good.

2 National Championships. No Gator coach has ever accomplished it. You owe Meyer your gratitude. Forever.

Also, Meyer never said his dream job was ND. The man has always idolized Woody Hayes, not Knute Rockne.

    Lulz, keep telling yourself that.....

Written in 2008, way before he even thought about Ohio.

Urban Meyer's dream job is still Notre Dame, but would the Irish be better if he were coaching in South Bend right now? - Sports Pros(e)

Life is pretty good for Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer right now. His team will play for the national championship against Oklahoma next month, his job security is at an all-time high and he's got the best player in college...

I actually understand some of the reactions here. My problem was with Matt Hayes calling Florida "a broken program." Man, a lot of programs across the country would love to be broken if he's accurate in his assessment. Fortunately for you guys (y'all, gotta know my audience) he's completely wrong.

He writes this article on Meyer in April, then the Gators go 11-2 and are ranked top-5 in the country most of the season. That's one hell of a broken program. And Meyer winning two crystal balls while in Gainesville is going to help y'all for ages. He helped further establish you as one of the premier programs in college football.

I don't mind you guys giving me grief over the "butt-hurt" comment. I was making a joke about what the The Sporting News editor's note could have looked like. Just trying to add some levity to the piece. Clearly, there should have been something added so the average reader knew they were hearing this from a Florida alumnus. At least when people read my stories, they know I write for an Ohio State site. I'm not trying to hide where I went to school. Why not add an editor's note letting everyone know that Hayes is a UF alumnus? Oh, might come off as a slanted article.

But the facts are the facts. Hayes tried to say that Florida's football program is broken. He's obviously wrong. And it was an obvious attempt to bash Urban Meyer, unfairly IMO.

Haha. You try and use the word y'all. Poser.

Four years after spurning Notre Dame to take over the Florida Gators program, Coach Urban Meyer called the Fighting Irish "still my dream job; that hasn't changed" on a South Florida radio show on Wednesday.

    I did. It's not credible.

Although, if Meyer does leave OSU for ND after winning two national championships I certainly wouldn't cry about it.

I'd be forever grateful and wish him the best.

LOL is this guy seriously an employee of 247sports? I thought this network was best in the business?

"He writes this article on Meyer in April, then the Gators go 11-2 and are ranked top-5 in the country most of the season. That's one hell of a broken program."

-Must have ignored the 8-5 season UMs last year, 7-6 season WMs first year, dozens of players who left the program, locker room issues, etc. Urban HIMSELF told Pat Dooley "this program is broken."

" Clearly, there should have been something added so the average reader knew they were hearing this from a Florida alumnus. Why not add an editor's note letting everyone know that Hayes is a UF alumnus?"
-Just because the guy is a Florida alumn does not mean he sucks the programs dick like you do for OSU. Soooo many Florida alumns in the media are a little to negative on the program than us UF fans would like. Even Goldkamp predicts us to lose almost every game :-) .... Andy Staples, Jesse Palmer, etc. etc, Hayes has never written anything remotely close to being homerish. Completely unprofessional on your behalf to suggest a writer you do not even know can not write something on a coach just because he happened to graduate from a school where said coach used to coach.

"Hayes tried to say that Florida's football program is broken. He's obviously wrong."
-Does it not occur to you that maybe Muschamp fixed it, thus the 11-2 season? Are you seriously giving UM credit for this season? LOL GTFOH.

" And it was an obvious attempt to bash Urban Meyer, unfairly IMO."
-Dude get a life. Shelly has something to worry about.... I guess Urban has moved on from Screwing interns to screwing the OSU beat writers.

Also, WTF is up with you using "Y'all" all over your post. You BIG 10 yankee trying to insult an SEC board?

PS. I better get at least 15 upvotes from this post.

It's not about the Championships. I bet every UF fans is grateful for that, but his "heart problems" his lack or control, the lack of off the field discipline, the divide in the locker room, and the way he left is what aggravates UF fans.

When Muschamp took the job at Florida, he was told on several occasions by Meyer, “This program is broken.”

If a program was truly "broken" Vince Lombardi couldn't come in and have it go 11-2 in his second year. I'm sorry if this concept is difficult for you to grasp, but your program was NEVER "broken." You won two national titles in a four-year span. Then you had two down years for your lofty standards. Then you go 11-2. What a hell of a broken program!

Talk about a spoiled fan. A team has two down years (right after winning two national titles and right before going 11-2) and he's agreeing with Matt Hayes that the Gators had a "broken program."

URBAN MEYER IS THE ONE WHO CALLED IT A BROKEN PROGAM, DUMBA**!!!! I AM AGREEING WITH HIM!

    TBGator12

  • Man, you guys are hard on your former players. I actually honestly think Meyer (and Zook) produced not only a hell of a lot of NFL talent, but those guys are keeping their noses clean in the NFL for the most part. Who are all these NFL players from Florida getting busted? Joe Haden? OK, there's one, but he's not a bad guy by any means.

As for the arrests while Meyer was at Florida, isn't that commonplace among any college football program? When you have 105 players on your roster, you'll see about 5-6 arrests per year. Did Meyer have a bit more than that while at UF? Maybe, but not much more.

I just think this idea that Meyer ran some renegade program at Florida and left the Gators in shambles is a complete farce.

Urban Meyer made one throw-away line that "our program is broken." He was pissed off. He didn't LITERALLY MEAN THE PROGRAM WAS BROKEN (since you enjoy screaming on message boards).

Do you think he honestly meant the program was broken? Hell no. But Matt Hayes took that as fact and ran with it. Hayes made it seem like Florida's program was broken.

Cool, we can agree on that. Bianchi is a hack.

  • How do you know the stuff Matt was wrong? Meyer himself said it was broken. How do you know what it was or wasn't and that a 11-2 was not a product of Muschamp putting the pieces back together?

Again, let's say for argument's sake that Florida's football program was in fact "broken." Do you think even the greatest football coach of all time to come in to a "broken program" in the toughest conference in college football and go 11-1 in his second year?

    Didn't think so.

Fact is, Florida's program was never "broken." Far from it in fact. Hayes gave zero mention to the fact that Meyer winning two national titles while at Florida would help the Gators for years. Kids grew up watching Florida dominate college football. That is going to help your program for years. Acting like Florida's program was "broken" after two mediocre seasons was short-sighted at best, fanboy BS at worst.

Also, I don't buy into the idea that Meyer's players were in trouble with the law at Florida more than at your average big-time college program. When there are 105 college kids on your team, 5-6 of them are going to get arrested per year.

Meyer was the best coach Florida has ever had. And that fact is still true today.
