Revisiting TSN’s Hit Piece On Meyer

Last April, Matt Hayes of The Sporting News released a hit piece on Urban Meyer. Today, we take a gander back at one of the worst stories by a sportswriter in recent memory.

  • Never thought I'd see an employee of 247 write an article that included the word "butt-hurt" in it.

    That's...interesting.

  • Wow, he used "butthurt" and calls the other guy out. I read the article from Matt and there were a lot of truths in it. It sounds like he's a little "butthurt" that Ashtabula jesus got a bad rap. GTFO, Urban is a snake oil salesman plain and simple. I'm grateful for what he did, but the Buckeyes are the ones touting him as the greatest thing ever. He isn't the same coach he was when he got here, and 12-0 with that schedule, in that conference, and zero pressure because of the sanctions, proves nothing. If he has a great season this year, then I'll come around on that. The fact is that Urban had some pretty bad talent evaluations his last 2 years, and 20+ of those guys are gone now or career backups. We all know that the locker room was poison, whether they want to believe it or not. Urban's a star chaser, and thinks he can cure even the worst character guys. I am just happy that we don't have to deal with his drama any more. If he would have sustained it, and the drama never started then who knows where we would be right now and he wouldn't be at OSU either. He had the best talent per capita in the Country right outside his back door, and now he has to fly National to recruit wwhich he loathes. Whatever, I don't GAF about him or those cocky Buckeyes. I do dislike them though, and always have. I would love the chance to pound them in a National Title game, though. That would be epic, and the meltdown from the Buckeyes would be just as great. It is really pathetic that they are that cocky and haven't won anything with him, but try and take credit for Florida's accomplishments. I don't see Tim Tebow, Percy, Ahern, Spikes, or Dan Mullen and Mattison/Mccarney there. They will see that it's not that easy, but especially when your core roster is filled with northern guys, with a bit of southern talent mixed in. They will look like ND did, when they have to play a team like Bama, or UF if we get to the level I think we are headed. He has a lot of talent, but they have no defense left this year. Watch them lose to purdue or wisconsin. That's all it takes to ruin their season, because they all expect him to go undefeated and that includes the media. All the pressure he hates, will be back with a vengeance this year. I can't wait to watch the drama knowing it won't hurt us this time if it does go bad. Bucknuts are OBSESSED with us, but the truth is they got our tired, used up, burnt out, sloppy seconds.

Ya, and him calling Matt out is gonna make us all ignore how obsessed he seems with making UF fans look bad? GTFO.

  • If given the chance that guy Dave Biddle would swallow Urban's semen

    premo

  • I will always believe that when UM resigned the second time he knew he was going to OSU. He deserves the title Urban Liar.

    bossgator

  • What I want to know is how does this guy know what really went on at UF and how does he know the things Matt said weren't true. How does this guy know "the cicle of trust" wasn't a real thing. I mean how many players were arrested during Urbans time that we know of? I bet there were numerous other players that had off the field problems that we never knew about and Urban didn't do anything about it because they were too important to suspend. That guys article is just as bad if not worse then the artcile Hayes wrote. Worst part is all the comments from the buckeye fans saying how great the article is and how great Urban is.

Also LOL at the article saying OSU is his "dream job" didn't he openly state ND was his "dream job"

  • I actually understand some of the reactions here. My problem was with Matt Hayes calling Florida "a broken program." Man, a lot of programs across the country would love to be broken if he's accurate in his assessment. Fortunately for you guys (y'all, gotta know my audience) he's completely wrong.

He writes this article on Meyer in April, then the Gators go 11-2 and are ranked top-5 in the country most of the season. That's one hell of a broken program. And Meyer winning two crystal balls while in Gainesville is going to help y'all for ages. He helped further establish you as one of the premier programs in college football.

I don't mind you guys giving me grief over the "butt-hurt" comment. I was making a joke about what the The Sporting News editor's note could have looked like. Just trying to add some levity to the piece. Clearly, there should have been something added so the average reader knew they were hearing this from a Florida alumnus. At least when people read my stories, they know I write for an Ohio State site. I'm not trying to hide where I went to school. Why not add an editor's note letting everyone know that Hayes is a UF alumnus? Oh, might come off as a slanted article.

But the facts are the facts. Hayes tried to say that Florida's football program is broken. He's obviously wrong. And it was an obvious attempt to bash Urban Meyer, unfairly IMO.

So UM was trreated unfairly? Hahahaha... get outta here dude... you're lost..

There is no unfair to it. Most of his information was from sources and quotes. UM deserves all the criticism he gets for the way he left and and how he left us and if I asked him that in person he would probably admit it.

So because Florida went 11-2 this year the program clearly wasn't broken? I mean, did it ever occur to you that it was broke and Muschamp fixed it?

Or are you saying because Meyer left Muschamp some good talent on defense that the program wasn't broken?

Either way, I don't get it. I don't hate Meyer. I appreciate everything he did for us. With that said, the article was slightly unprofessional and I don't agree with the logic behind it.

No he's saying that our 11-2 season validates that UM is GOAT and the buckeyes hired a great coach, and was able to throw jabs at us in the process..... All points that he knew his audience would slurp up and ask for seconds.

did you watch the UF team we had 2 yrs ago? did 7-6 never happen? Did u look at all the fat muschamp had to cut off this team when he arrived in terms of ego's?

Even in urbans last yr the inmates ran the asylum, for instance in Bowl practices Mike Pouncey and Carl Johnson refused to get off the bus because they didn't want to go full pads so urban allowed them to get away with it and changed practice around to coddle those egos

  • 2 National Championships. No Gator coach has ever accomplished it. You owe Meyer your gratitude. Forever.

Also, Meyer never said his dream job was ND. The man has always idolized Woody Hayes, not Knute Rockne.
