Something that caught my eye

  • from Muschamp's presser according to TG

"Muschamp mentions Marcus Maye first when asked about the safety position. Then Gorman and Showers, said they've done some good things. Muschamp said Rhaheim Ledbetter will be a great special teams player. Then they can maybe move some guys inside from corner."

Out of Roberson, Louchez, and Watkins who would make the best safety? I think Louchez would but I think he's the best corner of the 3 so I really don't want him to move.

If I think purifoy can cover u must be smoking. He grabs and holds all the time and has no awareness of the ball in the air. Roberson is the best corner right now..,,,,until VH3 comes in and he is better than all of them right now. Purifoy should be on offense or get a look at safety

  • As I said leading up to the bowl game, the coaches were very, very pleased with Marcus Maye's progression in bowl practices.

As of now, I'd say he's probably a guy you can pencil into one of the starting spots going into spring.

  • None of the three are top notch, VHIII should be able to come in and play a lot of snaps and so could Ramsey or Alexander. Watkins Purifiy and Roberson are horrible when the ball is in the air while Roberson and Purifoy are too big if a penalty risk.

I had VERY high hopes for him and Kent Taylor coming out of HS. Good to hear he impressed so much in bowl practice. I think we have a lot of options in the secondary next season. A lot!

have to disagree here...out of those 3 Purifoy is the weakest corner imo

  • An anonymous player has a quote on TOS on Maye saying he already looks like an NFL safety and he expects him to start next year. He just took a long time to recover from the knee injury.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Maye was one of my favorite prospects last cycle (I had him with a 5* grade) and one of the many things I loved about him was how "coachable" he is. I always marveled at his ability to absorb/retain teaching and translate/apply it to the field so quickly. Kid is a coach's dream. Special talent and player.

  • Maye looks the part, I sure hope he can play it as well. I definitely wouldn't count Showers out, or Marcell/Nick W.

Makes you wonder how we had that top 5 defense with our crappy corners.

Or maybe safety in the nickel if they feel like they can find a safety like Elam who they trust at nickel ala what Cody Riggs did before he got hurt.

  • Sarcasm, right?

    Hope so.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I completely disagree with the poster above that said Roberson is bad with the ball in the air.

lol Any of the 3 could start at any SEC team. One or two will make pre-season All Sec team. Crazy to think HS kids are better than 3 DB with over 24 games under their belt on a Top 5 D. I've read it all on GB.

  • Roberson was our best corner by far @ the end of the season. He was like a blanket in the FSU game, and you didn't notice him (which is a good thing) in the Louisville game.

    lean_gator

  • The early reports were that maye really struggled when he first got to campus and had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the game

but like matt jones, towards the end of the season the game started to slow down for him and he started to really come on

  • Glad you made this thread, because something else caught my eye...it's been something I've been syaing for awhile:

    Bryan Holt ‏@Bryan_Holt
Muschamp on playing 75 percent nickel or dime: "The Sam linebacker position in our defense is becoming extinct." #Florida

Lot of talk about moving Powell to Sam, but considering how not important the position is, I think the Gators will end up just heavily rotating Powell, Bullard, and Fowler at the 2 DE spots.

In light of this, we need Ramsey badly

I think we will only play 3 LBs vs LSU & UGA
