Some news on Austin Nichols

Was chatting with a buddy of mine who is wired into the AAU scene in Memphis pretty tight about Austin (who we both love) and he said that the word around Memphis is that the kid LOVES Duke (lord knows why as they use their bigs to set screens and never utilize them, in case you hadn't noticed they have had as much, if not more problems landing a stud big as we have the last few years and they are a blue blood IMO), and as soon as Duke starts showing Austin love, he may jump on board with them....time will tell, and I know Austin also really likes BD and UF, as does his dad....just a heads up...

kids are still lured in by Duke's mystique even though they haven't had a successful big in years

What bigs do we look good for as of today Bullis? we need at least two bigs in 2013! maybe 3. IMO we need to instant impact top 50 bigs in this class

A duke fan on a national board told me something like this in January , but i just brushed it off as a duke fan being cocky.

we will be fine in 2013 w bigs...still evaluating a ton of kids and the board will evolve and change as we enter AAU season full steam

Nichols goes to Briarcrest Christian, which has extremely high academics and sends kids to some of the top schools in the country. I know that basketball is a priority for Austin, but so are the grades. There is this perception that Duke is the best combination of basketball and a great education so it does make a lot of sense that Duke would be on his radar.

I think it will come down to uk KU and UF for Chris Walker.

Well - one thing we all know for sure - we've got the mkt. cornered on guards for the next 2-3 yrs!! Agree with Bullis - there are a ton of bigs in the pipelines in Fla. H.S. alone next season, not to mention the ones in the South. Maybe the new coach we hired can reel in a surprise or two in the NE!! I think we hit the jackpot sooner than later!

They've been mentioned here on the Board quite a bit. Best to sit back, relax & wait a couple of weeks-let the coaches close the deals! Still have a couple of official visits on the horizon. Won't do any good to worry. Just let this thing run its course.

The point guard on that Briarcrest Christian team that Nichols plays on is S.J. Tuohy. His dad still holds the career assist record for Ole Miss. Most of you might recognize the name if you saw the movie "The Blind Side." Remember the little kid? Well, he's growing up now and is a considered a late blooming talent in the Memphis area.
