Joel Berry – The 6’1 junior at Orlando Lake Highland Prep saw his first action since having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. He didn’t wear a brace and during warm-ups moved with his normal grace and fluidity. In the early portion of Friday’s contest against Tampa Wharton there was some rust to his play but as the game went on Berry seemed to settle in. He didn’t make as many forays to the rim as usual until the fourth quarter at which time he produced a couple of baskets in heavy traffic. Instead, he knocked down open shots along the perimeter both behind the arc and off the dribble from mid-range. Another sign of confidence in his knee was that he didn’t hesitate to crash the glass at either end, most notably coming up with four offensive rebounds. Berry moved well up and down the court in transition and his lateral movement on defense appeared normal. This can only spell trouble for future LHP opponents who thought they might be able to get by a less than 100% Mr. Basketball.
