Photos of Vanderbilt's major facilities upgrades

  • Vanderbilt's new facilities look fresh. Check out this photo gallery. I know everyone talks about Florida selling itself and all, but these facilities around the league are starting to put some distance on the Gators.

Funny cause after Hargreaves made his trip around the country, he said nothing compared to UF.. Yea we dont have a IPF, but our weight room is top of the line and was re-done in 2008 I believe.. And the stadium has gotten upgrades for what seems like 5-6 summers in a row now..

I think the weight room and Heavener complex stack up to the best in the league, but there's no facility beyond that. Most of these other teams are putting in major facilities with indoor fields to accompany them.

  • Astro-Turf [ or whatever they call it now ] sucks big time! That's more of a disadvantage in my opinion. Nothing beats grass.

    Repartee

  • Pffft...they don't even have grass on their football field. Good luck selling recruits on playing in dirt!

That's not really what VH said... He said all of the best programs are pretty much the same, but UF is close to home, has a better relationship with the coaches, etc.

  • Vandy has a nice, if awkward, BB arena. Its FB stadium is worlds behind the Swamp in most categories. They don't have a FB front door like UF. They have far, far fewer club level seats, and UF has its new Jumbotron, and another big screen above the NEZ. The improvements to the vending areas in the Swamp that are underway will update that neglected space.

UF's baseball facility is fairly new and very nice. I guess I'm not seeing where, beyond the acknowledged issues with the O-Dome, and the ubiquitous IPF complaint, Vandy has put distance between itself and UF. Rather it's the opposite.

An IPF is not coming any time soon. It's a nice to have but doesn't put UF at a competitive disadvantage in recruiting. You couldn't recruit much better than we already are.

I do agree that something needs to be done about the O-Dome, if only an update and rearranging the seating pattern. But that is architecturally very difficult. So it's not going to happen. UF has a first rate BB practice facility. Our S&C facility is top 3 in the league.

I would like to see a premium seating deck above the East stands in the Swamp, but that's not going to happen if it requires tearing down AA.

  • I think in a perfect world with a lot of money(and i do mean a lot). The best thing they could do is to demolish the O'Dome and build a more modern facility that has an indoor practice facility apart of the new basketball arena, or underground, or above it, something like that.

They really should just build an IPF somewhere off campus, or turn it into a multisport complex like Vanderbilt so it has more than one use and it wouldn't be hard to move equipment there, you just check the weather and prepare ahead of time.

The players get around campus all the time, im sure it wouldn't be a problem. Of course you need $ for all this but i disagree that there is no room on Campus, Florida could find a spot im sure.

  • It's ok, but Arkansas and TN have the best new facilities I have seen. Of course The Swamp is better than Arkansas stadium by far, and UF sells itself a lot better than TN. I would LOVE to see us do what Arkanasas did and it would be a great way to get an IPF and not lose parking (They are building it on top of a parking garage). I will link the TN one for those that haven't seen it, it is truly awesome (they're going to need it). With all that said, we have a top 3 recruiting class again, and play in The Swamp, so we will get ours regardless of the facilities arms race.

Watch the video, it will make you a little envious unfortunately.

  • All we need is a couple good seasons and a couple of mega rich boosters to step up and we will have something like that.

I like the Swamp as much as anybody but when it comes to football stadiums i think overall Bama has the nicest and most modern one.

But ive never actually been to their stadium.

Kentucky's, although its a little small(70k or w/e) i thought was nice, its in a wide open area with plenty of room for tailgating and their concourses are pretty big.

I was more impressed with Kentucky's stadium than i was with Neyland Stadium.

I agree. Commonwealth Stadium isn't bad. The tailgating there is awesome, and believe it or not, there football fans are kind of cool and tolerable.

  • I'll go ahead and disagree about Commonwealth Stadium being better than Neyland. Neyland is nuts when you're inside and it's pretty awesome that it's right on the river. Neyland does a heckuva lot more for me than Commonwealth.

  • As I stated in another thread...feedback from some recruits indicated we are falling behind with facilities in the SEC. Even Alabama, which has great facilities, is not standing pat....

Alabama to build $9 million facility

    Associated Press
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama will build a $9 million, two-story training facility for athletes.

University system trustees on Wednesday approved construction of the 34,495-square-foot building between the indoor practice facility and athletic complex. It's expected to be completed by January.

The facility will include a weight room, rehabilitation and cardio area, strength coaches' offices and a nutrition bar and juice room.

It will connect to the indoor facility and athletic building through a connecting corridor.

The university said the Crimson Tide Foundation will pay for $965,317 of the project with the remaining $8.1 million funded by future revenue bonds.

Alabama received a waiver on the bidding process and awarded the nearly $600,000 contract to Birmingham firm Davis Architects. The company oversaw the expansion of both end zones at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
