There has been concerned speculation surrounding East Mississippi defensive tackle Jarran Reed that his recruitment may all but be over after he de-committed from North Carolina last week a day after receiving an offer from the Florida Gators.

    Jarran Reed

Add into that concern regarding the 4-star Reed, who is one of the top targets for Ole Miss, that his East Mississippi defensive tackle teammate Darious Cummings de-committed from the Rebels last week and committed to the Gators and the wondering on where Reed stands with Ole Miss certainly seems justified.

Reed insists the timing of his de-commit from the Tar Heels and the Gators’ offer was nothing but coincidence. And he cleared the air on exactly where Ole Miss stands in his recruitment on Wednesday.

“Ole Miss is my leader,” Reed said. “They are the one that I really like.”
As for Reed’s second choice, he says it’s a two-team race.

“Second would be between Florida and North Carolina. Florida may be a little ahead of North Carolina at the moment,” Reed offered.

  • To answer the original question about MS players going to Ole Miss, they have a strong allegiance to that area because their family has probably been there for a number of generations and they also have large, extended families that live in MS. The same is true of LA and AL, with the notable exception that schools like LSU, Bama, and AU are there.

  • Iceman -- that makes sense, that much is obvious ,,,,home state ALWAYS has advantage

BUT.....J Reed is from North CAROLINA....so no reason for him to stay in MS other than thats where he has spent some JUCO time unless its all about playing time...but got to think UNC offers equal playing time but not SEC obviously
