This is a very popular new thing, and can be very healthy. One piece of important advice is to make sure you get enough protein throughout the day especially if you are lifting.
Your muscle is fueled by protein, and if you don't have enough through out the day you body will burn muscle before fat or carbs which you don't want. Losing weight and losing fat are not always the same thing. That is why people that starve themselves have a very drastic drop in weight because they are burning up alot of their muscle which roughly breaks down to a 3-1 ration. Sothey loose alot more weight but it hurts them long term.
The recommend amount is 1gram of protein per 1lbs of lean muscle. And if you are counting calories, find you base amount needed for your weight and subtract on average 500 aday. Some people like to change it up so their body doesn't get use to it and subract 300 one day and 700 the next.
