OT: Finished all 5 seasons of The Wire

  • Great series, gotta say after 4 seasons I was ready to call it the GOAT, but holy sh*t they jumped the Shark in Season 5....because of that, for me at least, it will be in my top 3, but not #1....enjoyed the heck out of it though...

    Bullis33

  • terrible thing is...i stopped watching midway through season 5. Seasons 3 and 4 though are probably the greatest 2 seasons in tv history

    gatortray

  • Yeah season 5 was pure garbage

They didn't even try and just wanted it to be over i guess

IIRC the city of b more was not very fond of the show and fought them a lot towards the end

  • Its a great show, I remeber watching the first 5 episodes of season 1 and saying this show is ok, the plot is developed slowly and baaaaammm I was glued to the show by episode 10.

  • I'm not gonna lie, season five did suck. But it still had its moments. I still watch episodes from that season. I mean, Bunny went full retard with Hamsterdam but nobody crucified him.

    Rank em, Bullis.

    For me: 4 > 2 > 3 > 1 > 5

    cheers

Surprises me when I see S2 get no love. Great TV.

The kids and how they show the process of the players being made is what made S4 good. That and Marlo's come up.

S3 was the beef between Avon and String. And my boy, Bodie, getting love.

  • What is the plot of the show? So many people watch it and talk about it that I'm considering starting it myself. My GOAT show is Breaking Bad, it would take a miracle to beat that awesomeness LOL.

signature image signature image signature image

It's all about the Orange and Blue.

    jjjate79

  • Season 2 is my favorite one

Season 5 does have some moments

Like when McNulty freaks on the lying reporter

Mike killing Snoop then turning into new Omar at the end

Omar getting worked by Kenard lol

And the shootout at Monks apartment

The wire is better than breaking bad

It starts out as gangsters vs cops in bmore

But is mostly about life on the streets then turns into involving politicians and media and how all the drug money seems to travel all over a city infrastructure

I may be crazy, but I loved Season 2 about the waterfront, Greeks, and Union...for me it goes

    2, 1, 4, 3, 5

Bodie slowly became arguably my favorite character in the show who was not a main star...loved that kid....loved the slow simmer conflict between String and Avon....that scene on the rooftop where you knew what was coming, they hugged and said "Us" before the inevitable was so powerful

Tall man Slim Charles shooting Cheese in his sh_t.

    A bunch more.

It's the characters for me, man. Some great character.

    Bodie
    Bunk
    McNuttie
    Bubbles
    Carv
    Bunny
    Avon
    Wee-Bey
    Omar
    Marlo
    Mike
    Chris and Snoop
    Prop Joe
The two Greeks who weren't Greek

All of them. Even the ones I hated were great. Like Herc, Ziggy, Rawls and String

What I truly love about season 4 is that it shows how the kids lose their innocents and become adults at an early age. The one guy’s mom is an addict and he has to support his little brother.
Season 2 is great because it shows a community on the ropes on economic collapse and how they are fighting to keep their jobs.

Mike was also molested, and that plays a huge role in his development

I think it’s on HBO, I have been meaning watching it since it’s from the same creator. I know it’s set in New Orleans

Do it, its slow paced but just remember its all about characters

Once you figure them out you start to love them, or love hate them

Bunk and Lester's new characters are effin awesome

  • Five was definitely a little strange and hard to believe at times, but I think it was necessary to show a few different things. The goal of the show was to show the interactions of different groups in the city essentially. I think they wanted to show that with the decline of the local papers that the checks and balances of the system get diluted and it becomes easier to do things that seem crazy like McNulty did in season 5.

For pure entertainment I agree that 5 doesnt live up to the other seasons, but if you look at it as a part of the whole and what the real goal of the show was, I think it's an important piece of the whole.

For me the show is #1 and it's not even close. I've probably watched the whole series between 3-5 times and named my dog after Bubbles.
