You don't take OL for early impact. You want them to develop in your S&C program as well as learn new techniques for 2-3 years if possible.

So they take time to develop? Exactly what I was trying to say.

  • Im just saying just because he is 265 now doesnt mean that the coaches dont have him at the top of their board or think that he can contribute as a sophomore. Obviously DJ is a freak and most people arent like him

  • Also, as far as my opinion goes, O-Line has just about the least amount of correlation between HS rankings and college success. More 2* OL end up getting drafted in the first few rounds than any other position really. It's all about evaluation and development moreso than any position

At 265 I can't see them thinking he will have any type of early impact. I don't doubt that they like him a lot but he has a ton of good weight to gain and its hard to put on 40lbs solid lbs in a high school s&c program. He isn't a hoss like McDermott. Coaches probably see a ton of potential and 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years to develop him. That's all I was trying to say.

He's got another year until he signs a LOI and then another 5-6 months until he reports to campus. You really think his weight will stay stagnant over the next year and a half?

Yes, but I also don't think he should be labeled a "developmental kid" if that makes sense.

For those, coaches see a little something and are HOPING they blossom in 3 years. Here, I'd imagine it's more of "This kid WILL be great once he adds some weight/seasoning."

  • Reach imo one thing i hate about champs recruiting is how he fills spots so early and half the time they never stick or fail bc of grades

No, but do you really think he will put on 40 solid lbs in that time in a high school s&c program? I don't, maybe I'm wrong. Get him on a cycle or two of bama juice and he could start. How many guys put on40lbs with little bad weight and have the strenugth to make an impact their freshman year? Few, but it does happen.

If he redshirt a his first year, probably ideal, he won't play until fall 2014 and hopefully we don't need him until fall 2015, his redshirt soph year. 3 1/2 years from now and time to add weight and strength and develop technique. Is this a bad thing?

I remember the same comments about Kenau Neal. Then once people started watching the film and saw big-time offers rolling in, they ate their words.

Yup we just have the 2 best guys at DT and WR drop us due to grades more than likely so i love accepting early commits that will end up not in the class due to it.

Maybe not 40, but 20-30? Absolutely. Weight's really the last thing I'm worried about with this kid, especially seeing his frame and how athletic he is. He'll be 290, 300 lbs. in no time.

Coaches can pack weight on this kid, but they can't get others to move and bend as well as he does.

    Bronson has grade problems...

    Yulsic

  • I've learned two things about the 2014 class recently:

    1) Every prospect has grade problems.

    2) Everyone who posts on 247 is a HS academics/guidance counselor.

That is a lot different than saying someone has already dropped us. I see what you are getting at though.

DJ Humphries was light coming out of highschool too and played his freshman year

DJ was trained by Big Mo Collins for 3 years so he would come in ready to play as Mo told me before he got here...."he's going to play"
