  • Driskel is the starter. with that said, do the coaches treat the next two weeks like the first game and give Jacoby a second look or do they try to install a few more plays for Driskel vs FSU?

    Herdicus

  • No.

Like you said. Driskel is the starter.

You dont want your starter looking over his shoulder going into the FSU game.

Driskel has been the QB and brought us to 8-1.

Besides one horrible game vs UGA he had been what we needed.

  • The lack of an OLine and playmakers at WR will make any QB look bad.

I think that would create controversy.

I don't think it's a bad idea to get him some game reps though. He's a good second stringer to have on hand. He could potentially start on a number of teams, including this one. But Driskel won the job in the eyes of the coaches, and has led us to a 8-1 record. I think it would be a terrible idea for the team to switch things up this late in the year. Driskel is definitely a work in progress, but come next year, he will be a seasoned vet with a brutal stretch of SEC starts under his belt. And you never know how the rest of this year will turn out.

  • if we look terrible again next week i think we should give jacoby some reps just to be fair to the kid

hopefully he gets reps in garbage time tho we shouldnt have any problem next week

  • How anyone can suggest Brissett should play at all or get a look with an OL that cannot pass block is beyond me...JD is suoer mobile and still taking a beating, Brissett would get killed

    Bullis33

  • The batted balls were concerning for me today. I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't have been upset if they at least let JB get a series or two in the second or third quarter when we still couldn't do anything. Still love JD, but why not throw the defense a curveball when your offense is doing absolutely nothing?

  • I think we should give JB reps even if we are 100% confident in Driskel. Our backup needs some reps too in case Driskel goes down.

  • LOL where do some of you come up with this garbage. STOP creating noise in the system. If you arent sure what your talking about then just don't talk (type).

Yes. Second String reps at the end of the game if we are ahead by multiple scores.

I feel like our fans have forgotten hoe a second string QB should be used.

  • I was at the game and Driskel missed a few WIDE open WRs. Kids are getting open.

This is the SEC. If you expect to be able and sit in the pocket and pick Ds apart you must have mistaken this for the Big12.

Driskel's legs are definitely a weapon and may have actually helped to win more than a game or two. However, he does stare down pre-snap read. OL/legs be damned, if you can't get off your first read you are definitely going to be second-guessed.

    Brisset is a pocket passer...

Driskel is our starting QB and will be it for the remainder of the season barring injury

One horrible game, but the kid continues to regress.

  • Today was bad qb play, not just a questionable line. 5 batted balls is on the qb. He was way off a lot today and made similar decisions as UGA. He keeps regressing and we will lose vs FSU, no doubt. Hope he gets it together.

I agree I think he is thinking too much rather than playing the game but I think his regression is due to a number of things and not just on him. Our Oline has regressed with him and we are loosing some of our key players to injury. Our running game is non existent right now. Our WR are being themselves. I Play calling hasn't been very impressive. The last two weeks have been a perfect storm of events.

  • Like I said last week, Driskell is horrible. Can't read defenses and holds the ball too long. They receivers are open. They are open. You have to be at the game to see it. Driskell has not won anything. The defense are why we are winning these games. Offense has done nothing. You guys act like Driskell is better than Brissett. That is not the case. He is just more mobile and the coaches think he gives us a better chance to win. It aint even close to who is the more polished passer. This is an discussion that will go on every week. Don't worry, Brissett will be gone after this season.

Besides this thread the discussion isnt really going on. Im not privy to what the coaches are talking about but I am sure the coaches arent having this discussion.

The coaches have picked Driskel as the QB and are sticking by him.

Coming from a guy who can't even spell our starting QB's name right

Btw ^^^^ I guess the coaches know more than you cuz we are 8 - 1 Sooooo I guess DRISKEL (one L) does give us a better chance to win and at the end of the day all that matters is did we win

  • I wonder if some of the issues is that we still only giving him half-field reads. Wouldn't be surprise if the defenses can tell which side his read is and blitzing from the other side or something. Has to make life a lot harder for him if he doesn't have that many reads.

Honestly, he won the job due to his mobility, but we haven't really been using it. He needs to run more.

  • Attended the game today, and here are some QB observations:

-The QB play, as you all saw, was spotty at best. As I looked back at previous games I realized it just hasn't been that good period. Hot and cold is a nice way of putting it. The OL could do better. The WRs get open more than I thought, but they don't know how to extend routes well. So the bad plays aren't all on the QB. But the fact is, UF is getting good plays off and off at best from that position. Driskel still lacks a great awareness of when the rush is coming. Still has to get much better at that. From my view, it didn't look as though he sees the whole field well quite honestly. Also, there were several times when he simply threw to the wrong man. Perfect example -- at one point in either the 2nd or 3rd quarter, the pocket collapsed, so he ran straight ahead and threw to a well-covered receiver for a 5 yard gain. Unfortunately for UF it was 3rd and 10. Gave the play not chance whatsoever to achieve its purpose. I don't believe you all have seen a great improvement from him during the course of the season. Doesn't get sacked as much. That's plus. But is he reading defenses better? Does he go through progressions better? Doesn't look like it. The coaches would say I'm full of it. They have to say that. But my eyes and your eyes are probably seeing the same thing. Now, that said, he's the guy. Has to be. Huge upside if/when things really start to click. The real question is this: What kind of progression from Jeff will there from now to 2013? He has a long way to go. That's the harsh truth. Being able to make plays with your feet now and then is nice. But can he be a consistent threat in the passing game? Can he be a guy that will be able to attack a defense? We don't know yet. We just don't. You may says, 'well, he's just a soph.' And that's true. But what's also true is that he hasn't done a whole lot in the passing game at this point.

My gut tells me UF's OL will be MUCH better next year. And I also believe the WRs will be better as well. I think that's when we'll truly see what kind of QB this guy is. Tough kid. Great runner. Great arm. Time will tell if he becomes a great QB.
