Luke I would love to hear your opinion on this since your from that area and have been around the Miami program in the past.

I'm not an NCAA fan (started early w/ Bruce Pearl & tape recordings that disappeared), but my initial reaction is this seems to be overstepping their bounds. I would like to know which former players they sent these letters to, because can you imagine a 32-33 year old who has been out of college 10 years and not a UM employee getting this kind of ultimatum? Not talking equals guilt seems like the easy road out for the NCAA.

It seems obvious some (or a lot) infractions took place during the past three staff's time at UM. NCAA needs to find proof in the cases they are able and punish for those. I don't know the full details on who the letters were sent to though, so maybe recent grads who were just out of school before the investigation started.

As far as punishment and bouncing back from it, I felt with USC, as I do at UM or UF or FSU or Texas or similar schools with talent in their backyard, the right coach/staff can eventually overcome it. It won't be overnight, there will be very lean years, but I think it's possible to overcome in those locales with the right staff.

I keep hearing the punishment will be bad, but won't come until after NSD.

My question are these being sent to EVERY player named in the investigation or just players that they have uncovered alot of dirt on during the investigation? If its just certain players then I dont see the problem. Now if its EVERY player, then the fact that they can do this scares the hell out of me as a college football fan.

I just know the NCAA hates them and is ready to drop the bomb, Miami fans are truly delusional to these facts and actually think skipping two meaningless bowl games will make the NcAA happy

Doesn't seem like over-stepping. Seems like smart strategy to me. And if the players didn't take the benefits, they'll refute. Why wouldn't they? They only wouldn't talk to the NCAA if they did the deeds and don't want to lie about it for whatever reason or they don't want to come clean because they'd be fibbing on their school. The NCAA doesn't have legal authority and can't do anything to these player. If nothing happened, they should speak to protect their school.

I think this will achieve exactly what the NCAA wants; and I think what they want is guidance on whether to believe Shapiro or not because they don't have enough tangible evidence and also probably find Shapiro dispicable. Given the responses so far, I think they'll choose to believe him. A hammer is going to come down eventually on the Canes.

My question is why is this clown on our board?
