Sounds like Randles visit to KU went well for them. Watched jayhawks destroy Texas with former players like Chalmers, TRob, Morris twins etc.

No such thing as a bad visit to a Kansas game for a KS recruit, especially for Randle! If Randle thinks he could have made a diff in TX play last nite & if he had played could have changed the outcome of the game if he was on the TX squad - well - we all know he's smarter than that!! That game & KS experience in my mind could have all but eliminated TX from his consideration - woke him up!! It could also have put KS in his top spot!!
IMO. FL needs to get him to one of our final 3 home games & let him experience the Rowdies! Then let Billy show him the blueprints of the renovated O Dome waiting for him upon his arrival!!

Morris twins, Thomas Robinson, Tyshawn Taylor and Nick Collison are sitting behind KU's bench. As, of course, is Julius Randle.

from local paper - Opinion: KU makes it hard for recruit Julius Randle to say no

Not only that, he watched it sitting among seven active NBA players who played their home games in front of adoring capacity crowds, sometimes including fans who were in the building in the morning watching the ESPN “GameDay” crew do its thing, as was the case Saturday.

Mario Chalmers, Nick Collison, Xavier Henry, Marcus and Markieff Morris, Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor all sat near Randle.

Well before tipoff, students chanted “We want Randle! We want Randle!” They didn’t mean team orthopedist Dr. Jeff Randall, who happened to be strolling past at that moment. Their knees were fine, and so were their voices. They used them to speak from the heart. They want Randle, and they made sure he knew how much they want him."

Randle and the rest of the crowd caught a glimpse of how much fun the Kansas players have in the locker room, doing the Harlem Shake, captured by a video on which McLemore also looks the most talented. (“With the first pick of the 2013 NBA Draft ... select Ben McLemore.")

After the blowout, Elijah Johnson shared that when he was in the throes of the worst slump of his career he received encouraging text messages from former stars who let him know they had been there, done that, a once-a-teammate-always-a-teammate reminder that surely would appeal to any recruit pondering a college choice."

KS does know how to appeal to & recruit kids they really want. Here's proof of that. Maybe a tad ahead of KY. Basketball is second to nothing in KS!!

Fla needs to make a move to get him back to see a game in the O! It's rock'n again & the sell out crowds have been fantastic! He needs to experience Fla basketball!

  • so looking at this from a distance

UF - interesting UF visit came earlier than UF originally wanted but we got C Walker/ K Hill in mix ....not sure if KU had any of his fellow 2013s on campus

dont think UF had any NBA stars in town that wkend...KU orchestrated the bball atmosphere/ NBA guys in town during all-star wkend to perfection to create a perfect game day atmosphere....ESPN in town also etc

as for on the court -- Self can sell T Rob development / BD can sell the fact he has coached JR successfully/that true comfort level

As for playing time? they lose everybody that gets minutes except Jamari Traylor PF/C and Perry Ellis SF and a PG ...so no question he can start day 1 for KU.......sucks for us IMO - that may be the biggest negative for UF

given he will be fighting for minutes vs DFS/CP/WY and C Walk at SF/PF spot and possibly PY/DH (more complementary given Centers vs PFs)

so comes down to whats important to JR?

debatable which programs staff can develop him better (no D Manning at KU on staff anymore though)

KU - immediate playing time on a likely less powerful/NC quality squad BUT immediate playing time for a bigger name program w/ good but not great PG on roster

    vs

UF - more of a complementary role on a Final 4 , top 5 squad w/ a legit pass first top shelf PG

All good pts Chomps. Kid really doesn't have a bad choice. At UF, he'll go up against future NBA players everyday in practice - making him better prepared & challenged everyday while at Fla.!! Lot to be said for that experience!!

    FLAJeff

  • that is good point....cant beat banging everyday vs future NBA pros in practice vs practicing vs scrubs but getting 35 min run 25 times vs lesser SF/PF in game setting

dunno not sure where the kids head at ....know he is a mommas boy and staying close is important ...KU wins there vs UF,,immediate playing time, marquee/brand of KU bball ultimately but them over top

think if he was a southern state ie FL/GA boy this wouldnt even be a debate...UF hands down would win that one

Also with that USA basketball team, if Randle decides he wants to do the U19 and play in it again this summer he will be coached once again by Donovan. He has some good choices to choose from, not that easy at all.

I know it's not what you are saying but I wish Billy D. could use that time to recruit J. Randle some more. If I'm not mistaken that's ultimately how UF got as far in the race as it has. Unfortunately JR will done be signed, sealed, and delivered by that point. I feel we have fell down the ranks some on his recruitment the last couple months with the early visit and such... Jeff or anyone who knows, didn't he OV already? I know he visited. If he come back it would be on his own dime right? Just don't see UF signing him if we don't get him back on campus one more time.

He took his OV the weekend of the LSU game. Chris was there & Kasey came late due to SAT's-caught the tail end of the game. It was hot as heck that day, & I remember Julius mom telling me they have the same kind of hot weather in Dallas, so they were used to it! Heard the visit went well, which is what he's said after every visit-nice, polite young man.
I thought it was odd he came that early for a basketball OV with basketball not even close to being in season. But I was also informed he liked a school with a top shelf football program. He got to see a great game that day & he commented what a wild crowd we had.
If it wasn't for Billy coaching him last summer, he never would have stepped foot in Fla. I haven't heard anything lately on where he stands, but knowing about the KS game day experience, that will be a tough one to beat. No school can trump that!
Still keeping my fingers crossed Billy can pull it off. It would be his biggest basketball coup of all time at Fla.!!

Hey Jeff, do you think he might be waiting to see what happens with Young?

Don't think Julius is afraid of competing against anybody for PT. Pat is a C, Julius is a PF hybrid type multi position type player. IMO-if Pat returns-I think it helps with getting Julius to Fl. Hearing more to do with Walker - not sure why though. Walker does have grades to work on-that is a fact. But hear he's making progess. Nothing yet to worry about.
