Julius Randle Update

I'm hearing what he said! In a recent interview he said he's focused on finishing this last year at Florida! Also, my buddy works in the UF athletic office. He tells me what he hears. He was a manager for Billy D at Marshall then followed him to UF.

He was leaning that way not too long ago kb. So you are not off the mark too much. Might want to check in again. Suggest being a little more discreet with your contacts, maybe PM that kind of info.!
I'll go with my sources which updated me a couple of weeks ago.
Now I will say this - if he gets a call & they tell him he's a top 5 lottery g'tee - $$$ can be very persuasive & make him consider his options more closely!
It's prolly best to say no one, even himself can say for sure today. Gotta take care of biz first! There's plenty of time to think about those things after the season is over!

I don't get this...is JR planning on playing center? Pardon my ignorance, but can someone enlighten me what our starting lineup would look like if JR commits and PY stays? Also, if PY leaves and JR commits?

JR is not a C. Young & Tre Harris are C's. JR could play C due to his size. But he's better suited to play the 3 or 4 positions. Walker can play the 3,4 or 5 positions as well. DFS can play 2,3, or 4 positions.
Next year we are big, faster & more athletic IMO than this year. Mix in some Veterans such as Young, Prather, Scottie, Will Y & the rising sophs, maybe Julius - and the Gators look real nice on paper - just like KY did this year before the season started!! Then the season started! Takes a little chemistry & some experience to go with all the hype too guys!

  • I was thinking some about Randle's comments on playing with a good point guard. Among his favorites:

    1. UTx has Kabongo this year, but he is widely expected to leave and UTx does not seem to have a high profile replacement either on the roster this year or in their 2013 class. Felix did do a good job for UTx with Kabongo out.

    2. KU has had PG problems this year and does not have a high profile PG in their class.

    3. NCSU has a good PG in Brown but he is expected to leave after this season. They do bring in Barber who is a fairly highly ranked PG.

    4. OU does not seem to have a true PG on their roster this year and does not have a high profile PG in their class.

    5. UK has a mess at PG this year, but some think one of their wing recruits will be a good PG next year.

    6. UF has a very good PG this year in Wilbekin who is expected to return and arguably the best PG prospect in the class in Hill.

I know you have to take what recruits say is their criteria with a grain of salt. Still if Randle was serious about playing with a top PG, UF seems to have an edge here.

I don't think Randle chooses NC ST, but they have Barber coming in (you mentioned) and MCDAA Tyler Lewis from 2012 class who will be a Soph next season

  • The good news about his recruiting - Spring signing period is about two months or less away!! Then it will be Christmas in Spring for some lucky college next basketball season!!
Hopefully before then the Gator boys have a ring or two & some trophies to add to their collection!!

  • Well Billy being at practice clearly proves
UF is working JR to the end. IMO JR's having played for Billy is a key factor in
    His decision making.

The wheels seem to be coming off for Texas
This year, how that plays I'm not sure but if
JR wants a run in the dance clearly UF has
    An advantage next year.

UK's class is loaded and should Wiggins sign who is the BMOC?

I know there are others in the game nevertheless I like UF's chances.
If it were my kid I want BD coaching him.
Don't know if JR wants to be a one & done but if he stays a couple years he will have a renovated O'Connell center to play in.

UF will be a high seed going into the dance
This year with expectation to be very good next year.

I am also seeing a rejuvenated fan base with attendance. I think Florida has alot to offer and a great chance to sign JR!

  • I think Julius is going to KU today? Anyone else hear that? I believe GameDay will also be their. That place will be rockin'! Go Gators!

  • I think Randle ends up at Kansas. But good news is My boy Pat will be back next yr. He said only way he leaves is if he is lottery pick and we win championship. But he said he will still have a tough decision because he may want to try for two rings. And that is straight from the horses mouth. Go Gators.

If he plays the rest of the year the way he played against UK, then both of those things (lottery pick and championship) are strong possibilities.

Kansas Loses everyone from there team this year! Randle wont win a title with them in his one year in college ball. plus they have perry ellis coming back and another big coming in. Embid wont play much next year.

To me if Randle wants to win a title UF is the place to go and he would still be a lotto pick on our team with all this great talent!

Would love to see either Young or Randle on this team next year!

  • Don't count out KS. Hear they are coming on strong for JR. No better basketball environment than KS. The Phog & its fan base wowed Embiid enough to sway him to KU over FL.

If we fall short of Final Four I think Pat will be back for his senior yr.

I would not agree with that because he is done with school in the summer and will have kept his promise to his mother. Also being so close after what happen to Noel why would he stay and risk it with his degree and his value never increasing just decreasing.... He is a defensive player that will come in and give you 6 fouls and play 15-20 mins a game

    Dellie1057

  • because Noel is a def top 5 pick while P. Young is a late to mid 1st round pick and maybe even a 2nd pick with his inconsistency. he will be drafted whenever he comes out and i think he could really use another year to hone in on his skills

A comment like this is not necessary. Scottie is far superior than a remark that belittles him like this & what he has done for this team this season. I will remind you what he did to what many call a sure lock NBA pt. grd - Phil Pressey!!
Shut him down - stone cold turkey!! Scottie should be a soph, opted to enter college early. He is a 4 yr. guy - & he may very well get an opportunity to play in the NBA, not the YMCA - so don't confuse the two!

bingo Jeff....kid is the heart of our squad and we likely will only go as far as SWs intensity/smart play at the point take us

cray kid could have been a Rs Frosh if at another program that was deeper at guard when recruiting him/he came in (ie doesnt skip Sr yr HS and redshirts first yr on college)....kid is still like only 18-19

  • Scottie has been the most improved player I have seen the last couple years under Billy D. Rosario might be the most noticeable, but Scottie has some offense now. His offensive game has developed nicely under Billy D while maintaining (and improving) his lock-down D.

No question Scottie may have a chance to play in the NBA someday if he continues to improve.

  • Sounds like Randles visit to KU went well for them. Watched jayhawks destroy Texas with former players like Chalmers, TRob, Morris twins etc.

  • Morris twins, Thomas Robinson, Tyshawn Taylor and Nick Collison are sitting behind KU's bench. As, of course, is Julius Randle.

    from local paper -
Opinion: KU makes it hard for recruit Julius Randle to say no

Not only that, he watched it sitting among seven active NBA players who played their home games in front of adoring capacity crowds, sometimes including fans who were in the building in the morning watching the ESPN “GameDay” crew do its thing, as was the case Saturday.

Mario Chalmers, Nick Collison, Xavier Henry, Marcus and Markieff Morris, Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor all sat near Randle.

Well before tipoff, students chanted “We want Randle! We want Randle!” They didn’t mean team orthopedist Dr. Jeff Randall, who happened to be strolling past at that moment. Their knees were fine, and so were their voices. They used them to speak from the heart. They want Randle, and they made sure he knew how much they want him."

Randle and the rest of the crowd caught a glimpse of how much fun the Kansas players have in the locker room, doing the Harlem Shake, captured by a video on which McLemore also looks the most talented. (“With the first pick of the 2013 NBA Draft ... select Ben McLemore.")

After the blowout, Elijah Johnson shared that when he was in the throes of the worst slump of his career he received encouraging text messages from former stars who let him know they had been there, done that, a once-a-teammate-always-a-teammate reminder that surely would appeal to any recruit pondering a college choice."
