Joe Lunardi has Florida as a No. 1 seed

  • ...per his tweet about 10 minutes ago. Playing in the West region.

  • West Region because the Gators are #4 on the S-Curve and that's what was left for UF. Still, good to be on the top line again. There is no person that understands the committee's mindset more than Joe Lunardi.

I disagree there, but to each his own.

  • i still think we end up a 2 seed...and i do predict a final 4...and who knows from there...

  • If for some odd reason the Gators ended up in San Jose, California playing as a #1 seed(don't think its even possible) i would definitely go to the game.

It seems like Lexington is a likely spot for the Gators at this point

    I personally don't feel like we're a #1 seed

    1. We have decent OOC wins over Marquette and Wisconsin, but those teams are not great.
    2. We have a great record but the SEC is horrible this year. We need to beat Ole Miss and Mizzou again to help our RPI, wins over Kentucky would be nice.
    3. However if the other top teams in the country keep losing than i have no problem with us being a #1 seed as we're not losing to teams we shouldn't lose to.

For me, the blow outs are impressive, but its like in college football when a team powers through a very weak conference. Are our guys getting test for the tournament? No, they're not having to play a full 40 minutes of real competitive basketball for the most part.

This team has been impressive from our margin of victory and we've shown we can play with some of the best this year(should have beat Arizona, may have beat Georgetown).

The one thing that gives me confidence is the back to back elite 8 runs, and the fact Billy D is our coach.

I just hope all these blow out wins don't go to our guys heads come tournament time and for the Gators to get a 1 seed we're really going to need to run the SEC slate.

If come tourney selection time we win the SEC, and only have 1 or 2 conference losses i will feel we deserve a 1 seed, but we really need to run the SEC slate.

  • So who are your 1 seeds then?? Michigan, Kansas? Ok. Then who? Duke-they lost by 30 this week. UofL- they lost there last 3 and 1 was to unranked Villanova. Syracuse-they too lost to Villanova and should have lost to Cincinnati. I don't think we are the overall number 1, but as of NOW, we deserve a 1 seed. I just wish we weren't out west.

Right. There are much better bracketologists out there than Lunardi. Jerry Palm for one.

GTown is going to be a huge game or lack of game for us, as I predicted back in November

If we run the SEC and finish with only 1 or 2 conference losses than i will for sure feel like we are a #1 seed

The SEC is pretty bad this year, look at the teams we have beat in conference

    Georgia 8-11
    Miss State 7-11
    LSU 10-7
    Texas A&M 12-7
    Missouri 15-4

    Our key wins are over:

    Wisconsin who is 14-6
    Marquette who is 14-4
    Missouri who is 15-4

From a record stand point we're a #1 seed right now, and our margin of victory makes us a #1 seed, i just don't feel like we're a 1 seed because we haven't beat any real good teams outside of Missouri.

Based on everything, our schedule, margin of victory and key wins, i would have us as the top #2 seed and getting closer to a #1 seed especially if we keep winning.

    My top seeds right now

    Syracuse
    Kansas
    Michigan
    Arizona

Now you can make an argument that Cuse and Zona are not any better than us, we should have beat Zona but at the end of the season they will look at Arizona schedule and see them with a win over Florida.

We're very close to a #1 seed and you can definitely make a case as to us being a #1 seed. But i want to see how we do on the road @ Mizzou when they're at full strength, how we do against Ole Miss, and how we do vs Kentucky.

  • #2 in south or east much more preferable

A number 1 seed makes it a lot easier than a 2 seed IMO.

Basketball is way different than football. Any team any day can beat the best of them in basketball and I think it's a great sign to see our guys not playing down to the competition. Consistent blow outs is a telling sign that Billy has the guys dialed in right now to fight no matter what the scoreboard says. I think uf is def a top 3 program right now

Agree Slevin. Also way too darn early to start talking about seeding. Conference play reaches the midway point next weekend, so too early to start planting seeds!.
Whatever seeding we do get, need to have a break or two in the tourney in order to keep advancing. MO got knocked out by Norfolk St. last season & we ended up cruising past NSU to advance.
I'd almost not get a 1 seed. Brings a huge bullseye with it.

  • Big post coming, so be warned:

Stop comparing records of teams and the perceived weaknesses of conferences and start comparing RPIs of the teams we've played and our record against 1-50, 51-100,101-200, and 200+ in RPI. That's what the committee gets on the team sheets. Also inflate our placement on the S-Curve because multiple committee members like the "eye test" and I'd like to see a team nailing that better than the Gators. Very few can say that.

I'm going to try to breakdown what our team sheet looks like to the committee.

    RPI: 5
    Non-Conf RPI: 4

    SOS Rank: 11
    Non-Conf SOS Rank: 8

Opp. SOS Rank: Unavailable to me
Non-Conf Opp. SOS Rank: Unavailable to me

    Avg. RPI win: 126
    Avg. RPI loss: 21

    Record: 16-2
    Home Record: 8-0
    Neutral Record: 2-0
    Road Record: 6-2
    Non conf record: 10-2

    vs. 1-50: 4-2 overall, 3-0 home, 1-0 neutral, 0-2 road, 3-2 non-conf
    vs. 51-100: 3-0 overall, 0-0 home, 1-0 neutral, 2-0 road, 2-0 non conf
    vs. 101-200: 6-0 overall, 3-0 home, 0-0 neutral, 3-0 road, 3-0 non conf
    vs. 200+: 3-0 overall, 2-0 home, 0-0 neutral, 1-0 road, 2-0 non-conf

The only other thing on the team sheet is our games, broken down by 1-50, 51-100, 101-200, and 200+ in RPI. They list the RPI rank of each opponent, where it was played, the date, and the score.

That's all the committee gets. Nothing else. No ranking of the conferences by RPI, no KenPom, no Massey, no polls, etc. Now, each committee member is allowed to bring in any kind of information they want to, so you end up seeing committee members look at KenPom and other computer rankings as assistance.

If you compare this to other teams, we'd be worse than 2 or 3 teams. We'd have very similar resumes to a bunch of teams after that. What gets the Gators pushed up to a 1 seed right now? The eye test for one. It's hard to measure of course, but it's the human element in these discussions. You can only do so much based on looking at statistics. These committee members are watching games all season. Typically, each member is responsible for 2 or 3 conferences that they must be an expert on. The LSU AD would likely be the SEC expert. It'll be up to him to relay to the committee just how good the Gators are in the games that he has watched.

Another thing the committee will like about the Gators: 4 road games out of conference + 9 in conference for a total of 13. That's a lot. How our record on the road shapes out is going to be key. Being 6-2 right now is great.

If the season was over right now, Gators would be dang close to a 1 seed. It's a long way to go though. Believe it or not, there's still a few more quality wins we can get (at Mizzou and vs. Ole Miss in top 50) (2x vs. Kentucky, 2x vs. Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama in 51-100).

So keep dominating that eye test, have a great road record, and don't lose games vs. teams in the 101+ range, and this will have a very high seed come March.
