Jimbo calls UF "the little team down the road"

  • Maybe Jimbo Fisher might want to bite his tongue until he actually accomplishes something. He's never been a head coach and in his three previous years in Tallahassee, I haven't seen anything from his offenses that particularly stir the imagination.

Now, he lands one big recruit and he starts feeling the need to run his mouth a little. He might want to watch out. Most folks who piss off Urban Meyer tend to get it rubbed back in their faces. Just ask Mark Richt about that one.

  • Dumbo Fisher=diarrhea of the mouth! LOL!!!

  • Urban will eat this up and he'll use it for serious motivation for the Gators to make certain that they don't take anything for granted just because the Gators own the Semis. It's six straight wins for UF and in that time the Gators have outrushed the Semis 1,235-413 (which is absolutely pathetic particularly considering the Semis have the great Rick Trickett as their line coach; of course, we can't forget those two years with McHale's Navy) and outscored them to the tune of 202-71, which is pretty much a 34-12 outcome on the average.

  • Lane Kiffin 2.0

Lots of hot air over one kid only to get annual beatdown anyway.

It's quite sad just how far FSU has fallen, really, when one recruiting victory is enough for them to get some digs in.

  • How is this any different than UF calling FSU the "team out west"?

    CP7

  • It isn't any different ... except that it's not always a particularly good idea to rile the guy who literally owns you and right now Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators own FSU.

Well, you're right. What Fisher said really isn't anything different than Florida's references to Florida State as the "School out West."

I kind of like it. Gives us something to talk about, and in a way...I would like to see the rivalry revived a bit. Maybe it happens under Jimbo, or maybe it doesn't. At least he's going to come out swinging.

How does Meyer own Jimbo? Jimbo hasn't coached a game yet and has already beaten Meyer for a blue chip recruit.

You have to admit that Jimbo has FSU headed in the right direction. A revamped coaching staff, a much better S+C program, nutrition program, and our recruiting has improved. It's not like he's come in here, done nothing and is taking cheap shots at UF.

  • We destroyed FSU last year. They have not improved as a team that much nor will we decline.

Stuff like this is fine to fire up your team and fans, but on Sept 11 they go to Oklahoma. His bubble can pop very quickly.

That old thing about don't let your mouth write a check that your ass can't cash.

FSU hasn't improved as a team much? According to who?

Defense will be much improved. Just about everyone is back and FSU has competent coaches for once. Offense should be better too, only losses were Rod Owens, Richard Goodman, Caz, a backup OL and Fortson. The entire starting OL is back as are all the RBs, and of course Ponder.

You destroyed an FSU without Ponder and Hudson. No doubt you would have won had they played but the offense would have put up a better effort. 2010 FSU will be better than 2009, no doubt. The question is how much better.

  • Let's see ... Jimbo's offense vs. the Florida defense for the past three years:

2007: 99 yards rushing and 188 passing yards produced 15 points. (Florida won 45-15)
2008: 102 rushing yards and 140 passing yards produced 12 points. (Florida won 45-12)
2009: 83 rushing yards and 186 passing yards produced 10 points. (Florida won 37-10)

By my calculations, that's getting owned.

  • Franz, don't forget to throw in the 2006 Jumbo coached LSU offense (the one that had 8 or so NFL draft picks and may have had more talent than he'll ever have again) and finished something like 61st in the country in total offense and stifled in the Swamp.

    Lawman

  • "The little team down the road"... That kicked his ass 7 years in a row... Nothing worse than fake swag. Win something then you will have something to talk about. Trying to manufacture tradition/swag never works, you have to earn it on the field.

    jmiller_dup

  • Frankly, I prefer Franz's title of Tallahassee Trade School the best.

  • You know, now that I think about it, he fits in perfectly at the sow. Lots of asses that can't cash checks.

Oh ... thanks for reminding me. LSU's 2005 offense finished 60th in the nation with these athletes on offense:

QB: JaMarcus Russell, #1 pick in the entire NFL Draft in 2007
QB: Matt Flynn, 7th round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2008
TB: Joseph Addai, 1st round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2006
TB: Jacob Hester, 3rd round pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2008
WR Dwayne Bowe, 1st round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007
WR Craig Davis, 1st round pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2007
WR Benny Brazell, 7th round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006
WR: Early Doucet, 3rd round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2008
WR: Skyler Green, free agent signee who played three years in the NFL
TE: Keith Ziegler, 7th round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2008
OT: Andrew Whitworth, 2nd round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006

And yet, LSU averaged only 374.5 yards per game in 2005. That's only one yard per game more than the Gators averaged in a transition year in which Chris Leak had to learn his third new offense in four years and the Gators were so short of playmakers that they had Billy Latsko and a walkon playing wide receiver against LSU!

    Not last year.

He wanted to quit and spend time with his family but Bobby convinced him to stay on.

You could tell his heart wasn't really in it. FSU used the same plays over and over again with no creativity and played terribly undisciplined all year.

I think it's funny Jimbo makes one little comment at a luncheon and it sends you all up a wall.

    CP7

  • If you don't like Jimbo as an OC please explain this graph to me.

    CP7

  • A. I don't have to like Jimbo as an offensive coordinator since he's not the offensive coordinator at Florida.

    B. Those stats are built up in the ACC, not in the SEC.

    C. Jeffy actually got more than 300 yards of offense against the Gators in two of his last three years at FSU. Jimbo has yet to crack 300 yards against the Gators and one of those years was 2007 when the Gators had the worst defensive team they've had in the Urban Meyer era. Florida couldn't stop anyone in 2007 yet the Semis got all of 12 points (no touchdowns) and only 287 yards.

Fisher went 1-for-2 against UF for blue-chip recruits on Wednesday.

Fisher is 1-4 as an offensive coordinator against Meyer-coached teams.

How exactly does Jimbo have FSU headed in the right direction? He is the offensive coordinator and play caller that mismanaged the clock at the end of the Miami game. His hands weren't that tied by Bowden. When the Noles start putting a worthy project on the field and are actually relevant in college football please let me know. Jimbo has as much experience as Ron Zook did as a head coach and we know how that turned out. Please go check out the LSU offense under Jimbo. LSU won with a tremendous defense and a slightly above average offense. See if he puts a quality product on the field before you drink to much of the Jimbo kool-aid.

And don't forget, most of FSU's yards (especially during the 2009 game) were accumulated in the 2nd half when UF had their 2nd and 3rd team defense in and FSU still had their 1st team offense in.
