Is there any doubt about Will Muschamp?

  • Before you get mad at me for asking, it's purely to see where everyone stands. Last year at this point, a lot of people thought he wasn't the guy.

Now, I'm not sure there's anybody who thinks that. Is there any doubt at all that Will Muschamp is a guy who can lead Florida to SEC and potentially national titles?

Just an offseason gauge of everyone's thoughts on the head ball coach...

  • You should ask this after we lose a game and see how many trip over themselves to answer you. There is No Doubt he is the right person at this time for Florida.

  • Personally, I was an advocate for the hiring of Muschamp and I will stick with him until he's ready to leave UF. I love the style of football he has brought to UF and his ability to hire people around him that will help make the team successful.

  • I never had any doubts and still don't. That said, I'd damn sure love for him to get this Jorja monkey off his back.

  • There is always a natural question whether a coach is/isn't the right coach at a given time (Urban Meyer was really not a good fit in the end and realized it), but yeah Muschamp is our coach of the present/future IMO.

I will say it will be interesting to see how things go this year when we lose a lot of our studs defensively. Will our offense improve? Can he make adjustments/improvements on the offensive side of the ball to help improve it. We still haven't seen a competent offense through two years here, nor have we beaten UGA, won a BCS Bowl, SEC, NC. Like I said, I feel like Boom is the right guy for the job, but just say we go 8-4 this year with losses to UGA, FSU, I don't think anyone can say the questions wouldn't start to reappear.

No doubt in my mind and for a myriad of reasons.

    1. What we did this year with the lack of offensive talent we had, is simply remarkable.

    2. He's not a quitter, and you can see, hear, and feel that in everything he does.

    3. He is just as, if not more organized than Urban Meyer

    4. He is an elite recruiter, and gets the core of our class done early. He also finds a way to recruit character first, while not giving up anything in terms of talent.

    5. When someone asked him about the pressure of this job, his response I will never forget. It was something like: Pressure? Don't feel bad for me, I love this and worked all my life to get it! They pay me a lot of money too, so don't feel sorry for me.

    6. The way he doesn't show favorites and everybody has to buy in or get out, is very much the same way another major and highly successful program does it. When he got rid of Janoris, it sent a loud and clear message to how this team would be run.

    7. He's a winner, and a defensive genius.

    8. He self evaluates (looks in the mirror) better than any major coach I have ever heard of. The opposite is true of Jimb Fisher, and that is one of the things Noles complain about the most.

There are plenty more I could think of, but I absolutely have no doubt that he can take us to the mountain top and collect the trophy when we get there.

  • I think he is. I have thought since the day he was hired he was the man for the job. He has everything you look for in a HC. I questioned some of his initial hires(cheeseburger Charlie, Verducci, Aubrey Hill mainly) but I think he has shown he will make excellent hires.

  • After the 2010 season and watching the spread offense die before our eyes for UF all I remember was how badly I wanted a more traditional smash mouth offense with an air tight defense. We are headed in that direction. Champ and our program had a very very rough "growing" year in 2011 which was expected considering we are in the SEC and were changing our entire makeup of our team but still, our defense flashed incredible potential. Fast forward to last season and our defense lived up to the potential. I knew our offense would take a few years to fix (recruiting the right guys for the system) and it showed flashes of great and attrocious last season. Personally I think Champ is doing an A+ job so far but there is a lot left to accomplish and what happened in the Sugar Bowl is not easily forgotten.

  • When we were driving to Jacksonville to cover the introductory Gator Bowl press conference about 14 months ago and the Charlie Weis news broke, I remember thinking to myself ... he's toast. That's a huge blow for a first-year coach, and there must have been some kind of rift on the staff.

Fast forward 14 months to where we are now and what Will Muschamp has done is nothing short of remarkable.

  • He was the right man when he was hired. He did everything that was needed to be done year 1.

I feel he has our team 2-3 years ahead of schedule. While I don't think 2013 is our year, I feel confident that in 2014 we make a big time run.

  • My favorite thing about Champ is that he seems to do everything with integrity and is in his job for all the right reasons. I believe he was born to do this job.

  • I guess we'll find over the next couple seasons. We had a good season last year but our team underperformed at times as well.

I'll be looking forward to how the team responds this year with so many losses on both sides of the ball. Let's not forget while we had a great year, we also had games like ULL where we needed a blocked punt to win.

  • I like Muschamp
And I think he is the right fit,
and I know our defense is going to be on lock every year

BUT, I want to see WM open up his ideas of how we should run an offense, I want to score 30+ a game, I want to blow out bowling green, ULL, and Jacksonville State, I want to have a QB put up 250 yards passing every week
and that's not asking a whole lot honestly

Also, I want to see him beat UGA and win the SEC east, he has to do that to be the "guy" IMO
But I am also willing to give him some time too, he needs his guys in his system, still another year away

lol I thought it was great truthfully, but that's just me
I even thought WM should have considered firing him honestly

Let's not forget we had zero WR's, a converted QB as our only real TE, 1 good RB, a O line that couldn't pass block, a 1st year starting QB, and we were in a brand new offense. What we did is as good of a coaching job as I've seen, including the NC years. We had no business winning 11 games, with that schedule and our severe lack of offensive playmakers when everybody knew we HAD to run the ball. You're tough man, does anybody ever live up to your "expectations"?

  • There's no doubt in my mind that 'Champ is the right man for the job.

There's no doubt in my mind that 'Champ knows how to manage a PROGRAM.

There's no doubt in my mind that 'Champ will recruit, and sign, the players to sustain HIS PROGRAM.

There's no doubt in my mind that 'Champ will hire great coaches, and show them the door, when they're not who he thought they were.

There's no doubt in my mind that 'Champ will win 'Chips.

  • i'm all in...i think he needs to put some hardware in the trophy case to cement himself at UF...but it is clear to see the guy can coach and recruit with the best of them...

    Twhitey

  • WM and staff did an excellent job last season, no doubt...and they have recruited very well also...we really need to beat UGA and win the East next season...no real excuse not too....I am not going to blow up if we don't, but the East should be ours...I would love our Offense to be better as well
