Improvement you'd like to see on offense

  • I know there are obviously still some pretty significant personnel issues on offense (on the line and at receiver, mostly), but what one improvement would you like to see the current group make? Can be scheme-related, personnel change, etc. Curious to see what you guys think can be done to improve the current unit.

  • More play action under center
I feel like we don't do it enough
Especially since everyone knows we want to run and are going to run
I would also like to see some hurry up offense every now n then just to change things up and keep the defense guessing (one thing I loved about Kerwin's offense)

Some slants flats and curls would be a nice change everyone does it against us

  • Let Purifoy take over the Patton role. He's lightning fast.

I'm with you on that, but I disagree with DP a little on the play-action. Problem with play-action is Driskel doesn't get his head turned around to throw until after the fake, and half the time by the time he does that, he's got pressure in his face. I'd like to see more quick slants. Seems like Pease's offense really emphasizes 5-yard hitches, 10-yard digs, short drag routes and the wheel route.

Wouldn't mind seeing some more quick slants and skinny posts thrown into the mix.

Do you take him off the defense, then? Hard to ask a guy to play half the snaps at corner, most of the special teams snaps and play a somewhat extensive role on offense. Curious what you'd cut.

  • Maybe I'm wrong but I can't remember us running one slant route this season. I would like to see some type of passing game to the middle of the field in the 5-8 yard range with the WRs. Seems like its always outside throws or screens except for Reed. I also would like to see us connect on a jump ball down the field, seems like our WRs won't go up and fight for the ball.

Good point. Just change his limited role on offense from deep balls to the Patton sweeps. Maybe just a handful of plays on offense and let Debose have the rest. I just think his take-it-to-the-house potential is pretty significant.

  • Does Driskel have responsibility for making line calls to pick up blitzes? I'm pretty sure that's what NFL QBs do, but I'm not sure if the coaches wanted to put that on his plate. Basically, I want to improvements in identifying the blitz and making the right protection calls and/or executing hot routes. It seems right now teams are starting to blitz and will continue to do so until Driskel proves he can burn them.

3 man route 7 in to block the dude should have time

Also like to see Driskel keep it on the read option more

He missed one bad in the first half vs UGA Prob could have been a touchdown

Hammonds dropped a slant that hit him in the facemask during aTm.

I wanna see more designed Teb-I-mean-Driskel runs.

I don't know if he has a lot of influence in altering the protections based on the blitz reads, but he does have responsibility (along with the receivers) in reading the blitz and hitting the hot routes. He hasn't done that as well lately, though.

Yeah, I saw that one, too. Burton also missed a read on that fumbled exchange with Hines. Looks like he tried to pull it away from Hines on the keeper which caused the fumble. Hines would have been off to the races with multiple blockers in front.

Idk what Pease runs but our hot routes if our guy blitzed was a curl route Idk why we don't do that

That's what the Hammond touchdown in the Tennessee game was. I just don't think Driskel has been reading them as well lately. Haven't seen him throw at the blitz much that I can remember off the top of my head. For instance, the corner blitz that resulted in the first lost fumble against Georgia, he didn't even seem to see it coming. Throw hot to that side, and who knows what happens...

    Yeah that was read perfectly
Some of the responsibility is on the WR to alert the QB that his guy is coming
I haven't seen any of that
