SN: Phil Steel picked us to win!
"Florida will beat Tennessee in this week's toss-up game
Last week's Mississippi State pick made me 2-for-2 in my toss-up game predictions, and this week I am going to stay in the SEC for a third week in a row. The Florida Gators travel to Knoxville for a key SEC East game against the Tennessee Volunteers, with ESPN GameDay on hand. I do think the situation favors Tennessee, as they are coming off a game against an FCS team while Florida has to travel for the second week in a row after expending a lot of effort last week against Texas A&M.

However, I'm picking the Gators because they have a better defense and one of the best special team units in the country. I like what I saw from Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel last week and expect him to improve each week. While Tennessee did look impressive in their opening win over NC State two weeks ago, keep in mind that the Wolf Pack was only an 8-5 team last year in the ACC, and only beat Connecticut 10-7 last week. Despite being on the road, the Gators are the more talented team and will get another huge road win in a hostile environment."

  • Phil steele has proven to have good knowledge but he also could be protecting his gators finish first in the east thing too.

  • I'm going to the game and got 200 for the goon that knocks Bray or WR out the game. Not sure how I will get them the bread. flex

UT has twice as many yards, two missed fg's and and interception in the endzone which is how we win.

  • Vols fan here... This thread was linked, and I thought I'd provide some UT input:

-On the rushing battle: Typically, the team with the most rushing yards wins the game. Well, Tennessee does not need to run the ball to score. Although the run offense has improved from a year ago (having a actual RB coach helps, thanks Jay Graham), the offensive line has been the unit with the most improvement. This unit boasts guys that all have starting experience, minus the LT, Antonio 'Tiny' Richardson. Tiny is the best pro prospect of the bunch though, and turned down Nick Saban to come to Tennessee. The kid has '1st Rounder' written all over him. LG Dallas Thomas moved inside from the tackle position to make room for Tiny, and Thomas is on ESPN's big board for this year's draft as one of the top OL. OL coach, Sam Pittman, left UNC (a school that has produced some great OL recently), and has really meshed with the OL unit. Overall, this is an experienced group with a new coach, and a new confidence. Even though rushing is important, and Tennessee is improved in this category, passing remains the way Tennessee scores and will try to score against the Gators. To Tennessee, it is more important to stop UF's running game than to establish their own running game...

-On that passing game: Obviously, Juntin Hunter is back from his freak-injury suffered in the Swamp last year. Hunter is also a 1st rounder, and will be an All-SEC 1st team member after this season if no more freak injuries occur. He presents tons of matchup problems, and as a former track star, he has the speed and vertical jump to win battles with most college defensive backs. Cordarrelle Patterson is a newbie, but completely burned Preseason All American CB David Amerson in the Vols' opener in the GA Dome, on more than one occasion. Tennessee's 3rd WR is a senior, who is underrated. Zach Rogers is one of the fastest players on the team, and knows the offense better than anyone, as he has been here since OC Jim Chaney arrived with Lane Kiffin back in 2009. TE Michael Rivera is a senior, who transferred from Oregon. He is a valuable piece in the offense, and really just hasn't put up great numbers this year because of the wealth being spread to the skill guys early. The RB's in the offense also play a big role in the passing game. All three are threats out of the backfield. Rajion Neal, who will get most of the carries, played WR last year, and has great hands. He is also the strongest player, pound for pound, on the team, and broke many of Jay Graham's weight room records after spending the offseason training with the offensive line in the weight room. RB Marlin Lane is a great 3rd down back, who showed glimpses last year as a freshman while catching balls out of the backfield. Fellow So. RB, Devrin Young, is a return specialist, who also gets carries as a RB. He too has soft hands, and is one of the shiftiest players on the team. He is similar to a Dempsey like you guys had the last few years. The point is, Tyler Bray has tons of weapons, even with the SEC's leading WR from last year having just been kicked off the team a few weeks ago.

-On the Vols defense: Sal Sunseri's defense is susceptible to the big play here and there, but that is not what UF's offense has shown itself to be capable of so far this season. Your RB has half a groin right now, and rumor has it that Muschamp is holding back the true severity of the injury. Aside from Gilly, I think the rest of the offense has 1 TD accounted to it. Someone will have to step up if this is going to be a high scoring game like the Vols have the potential to make it. If anything as a Vols fan, I am worried that your QB will scramble for key 1st downs. We allowed Glennon from NC State to scramble silly, and he is slower than the average 250 lb, beer drinking, SEC fan. That is what scares me. Coach Sunseri brings blitzes from everywhere, and if Texas A&M was able to get to the QB like they did, then I think we will also have some luck pressuring him, and our DB's have shown that they can make opponents pay for bad decisions.

-On all the 'other stuff': Guys, Gameday has not been to Knoxville since 2004 when Auburn came to town. The entire state is buzzing right now, and there is a confidence among us that hasn't existed since I was in high school (2000-2003). UF sent back tickets, and they were immediately swooped up by Tennessee fans. The game was announced a sell-out nearly a week in advance, which hasn't happened in a long time. There will be over 100,000 crazies in Orange on Saturday night. You guys just played the role of 'giant killer' a week ago (even though you weren't really an underdog), and kudos for that victory, but can you do it a second week? Texas A&M was playing their first game of the season, and still played you guys close. You guys also come in without some big time players. Jenkins and Riggs are out this week. Your offense/RB is dealing with a nagging groin injury. Tennessee had an easy tune-up last week, and we completely rested two of our starting LB's who were dealing with a shoulder injury and turf toe, and both of whom are ready to go fully on Saturday. In the past, Tennessee has played tougher games before the Florida game, while you guys enjoyed a delicious cupcake. Well, this year is the reverse, and I think that plays to Tennessee's advantage. I will give you this: our kicking situation is one to keep an eye on. Michael Palardy was the #1 PK in the nation coming out of high school (went to HS in FL, mind you), and he struggled last year. Last week he missed his second XP of the year, and a FG. Our backup PK came on and did well. He has yet to miss a FG in his career, and Dooley will start out with him kicking. He is a black kid, and I'm not sure, but fairly positive that he is the first black kicker to start a SEC game. He is somewhat of an unknown commodity, since he doesn't have much experience in big games. Palardy will kick the longer FG attempts, but it will be interesting to watch the final minutes unfold if Tennessee needs a big kick late. Advantage - Florida, there...

-Anyways, sorry for the rant, but someone on our site linked this thread, and I just got to typing... I think this will be a good game. Bottom line, we are due. I think it will come down to these five things, IMHO:

    1. Can Florida control Tennessee's passing game, and limit it to 3's instead of 7's?
    2. Can Tennessee stop Florida's run game, get to the QB, and contain him by not allowing him to scramble for 1st downs?
    3. 2nd half adjustments: Dooley has struggled before this year in that department, while UF flat out nailed it last week in College Station.
    4. Special teams: UF doesn't have one of those guys I hate to mention from the past 7 years, who have destroyed UT on special teams. Can UT actually make some noise in this department instead of allowing UF to control this area? Tennessee finally has the pieces to be able to do this.
    5. Does Florida have enough mental and emotional toughness to get up for this game? Let's face it, UF is used to beating UT. UF just had an all out war in College Station. A short week of practice before heading to Knoxville, with a battered team; can UF roll into Neyland and come out victorious over a rested and confident Tennessee team, who is hungry to show that they are back in front of 100,000+ of their fans?

Kind of a strange when the coach of the Vols and the coach of the Gators are friends. No smack talk worth noting from either side (except from us fans, of course, lol). Can't bring myself to wish you luck, but I will say that I hope neither side sustains any serious injuries.

twocents My prediction is that Tennessee scores fast and often, but that Florida grinds it out to make it a game at the end, decided by an red zone interception by Eric Gordon in the last 2 minutes.

    Vols 30 Fl 27.

And just to kick the smack talk up a little:

Obviously neither of us are Nostradamus, but I can't help but think that if the game is tight it's ours. If Tenn is gonna win they're gonna have to win by double digits IMO. Special teams FTW
