    With that being said, you're acting like he had no resources to help him out. Like you said, he's been committed for a year. Do you think that this is the first time that he knew that he needed to work in the classroom? Do you think that our coaching staff hadn't addressed this before? Do you think that he had no resources or help to get the grades that he needed to enroll?

    The world would be a great place if it were a Disney after-school special where all we had to do was wish upon a star and our dreams would come true. Unfortunately, it's a much further swing in the opposite direction. Life is sometimes tough and full of bumps and roadblocks along the way. The sooner a person realizes that, the better. All of the successful people I know, whether it be career, sports, parenting, music, etc. became successful because of hard work.

    Is it disappointing that he's not in this class? Yes. Is it disappointing that he won't be attending UF? Yes. Is it disappointing that his dream wasn't fulfilled? Absolutely. BUT, as callous as this may sound...welcome to the club. Life is not the movies and we can't all be lottery winners. It takes work and hopefully he realizes it.

    I truly wish the young man the best. His football and college life is far from over and if UF is his dream he can still get there. It's just a little bit longer road now.

    You may be right that I don't understand what you are saying because earlier I thought his dream was lost and now I guess it's something else. Either way, I don't think it justifies throwing out personal insults and calling people assholes.

    If you are upset that he is not going to get an education then I have good news for you. He's going to go to school and get an education IF he wants it (since you can't make these kids learn). He still has opportunities. They just won't be at UF.

    I don't see what the travesty here is.

    What about all the great students that don't play football, have near perfect GPAs, high SAT scores, and great extra curricular resumes, and still don't get into UF? Kids that have worked their asses off in the classroom to get into an academic (yes, ACADEMIC) institution and still get rejected? Yeah, those kids that didn't get the bar lowered because of their athleticism. That's something to be upset about.

    There are plenty of kids that do the work needed to do day in and day out that don't get a fraction of the help that our athletes get. These kids are getting a wonderful opportunity and you want to give it all to them without a willingness to earn from their side...perpetuating the entitlement mentality. That's the real travesty.

    What about the kids that work 30+ hours a week to afford to go to school because they didn't get a scholarship? A scholarship that this kid was going to get. It's a privilege! A privilege that a lot of kids don't even get within sniffing distance of.

    How far do you want to lower the academic standards for these kids, Gubbs? Seriously. They are already pretty low.

    So should we keep lowering standards because of these perceived injustices? That's exactly why this country keeps heading south and we get more and more people taking from the system instead of adding to it. Instead of raising our standards, we lower them because it's "unfair" or whatever other lame excuse and keep perpetuating that same mentality. It's sad really. Sad.

    You can call me a "hard ass" or whatever else you want to. Frankly, I take it as a compliment.
