GUBBS - straight up and in your face.

  • Look i am going to be honest and fair about some things .
I hear this and that player don't matter , and this guy we can do without.
    are you kidding ?
    really ?
and this is coming from some of you shall i say veteran members ?
    ok ?
shut the hell up as far as i am concerned ! for real! straight up.
    you selfish ass holes.
anytime a young man or young lady cannot pursue theire dream of playing a sport for the university of florida and YOU SAY IT DOESN'T MATTER ? KISS MY ASS ! IT MATTERS!
IF IT WAS YOU IT WOULD MATTER !
STRAIGHT UP PEOPLE one of the biggest travesty's in recruiting is a player that waits all year and is faithfull to UF, is recruited by our enemy's and friends and is struggleing academically.
I UNDERSTAND UF can't hold a slot for someone that can't cut the mustard , but ?
THE QUALITY OF THE ATHELETE , A PLAYER WILLING T WAIT AND A UNIVERSITY WILL TO WAIT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE ? AND IT DON'T MATTER ?
WE CAN DO WITHOUT HIM ?
THIS KIND OF SHIT IS WHY I WAS AT TMB - STRAIGHT UP!
ever read were I posted : football is a future but a education from UF is a lifetime ??????? ever ?
    IT MATTERS! ALOT !

It is unfortunate but who can you blame? The kid knew what had to be done and didn't meet requirements. But yeah, I agree. It's sad.

it is not that the young man did not make the grade.
it is not that we don't know that the standard is a little bit higher , we do .
it is the fact that some have the gall to say: we cn do without this person or it doesn't matter ?
    it does matter .
yeah we have great players coming in .
and our staff will continue to do a great job recruiting and get us kick-ass players.
    but it matters.

what do you not understand ?
cause after all this time complaining about me either don't read or get up to speed.
it is old drama queen .

    gubberjk

  • again it is not the point that hearns didn't qualify.
hell half the time you got to weed out killer recruits cause you know the kid won't make the grade.
    but this one hurts bad.
    in all kinds of ways.
it is about selling dreams .
that is what a coach with a great track record does.
sells a product and a dream.
the product is what it is GREAT !
SO THE KID HAD A GREAT DREAM CRUSHED.
    IT MATTERS!

  • personally.
loseing a education in america is really bad.
    the better the education .
    the more prestigious the degree.
    the higher the academic standard.
the more doors open in life itself .
football only lasts a short time in a persons life.
the education is usefull a persons whole entire life.
it is one of the biggest travesty;s in america today wasted education.
especially when a young mind is so close.
oh ! hell yeah it matters!

  • tell you what everyone.
    I LOVE FOOTBALL , BUT ?
If you ever become a parent.
you will understand that anyones child in america should have the chance to fufill theire dreams.
the issue is how long do you hold theire hand .
that is when you hope you have done the best you can do.
some kids have a harder life or blossom later in life , the parent tries the child tries the university tries.
even if a hearns or brown or the countless others do not play a down on the field.
the education always degreed or not matters the most .
    always.
    this is recruitin attirtion .
it is the recruiting education that matters the most.
the chance to not only play a little ball , but maybe save a life down thhe road or build a building or save a sick animal or grow food for the starveing.
    that is real world.
that is the university of florida
helping make the world a better place to live in.
    it matters.

    gubberjk

  • I want to scream: come on james hearns!
you can do it bud! go to jcc then play ball at UF.
    Take your time.
in life it is only a minor set back.
you are 17 or 18 years old and still have a wonderfull chance to still reach your dream.
just have to wait a little longer than plannned .
prayers go out to jesus that he lessness james burden of the set back .
    never give up.
    god bless!

  • We've all had dreams that have been unfulfilled and some of the best life lessons come from those major disappointments. Hopefully, there's a lesson learned and it puts the kid on a better track. You're upset that this kid didn't have his dream fulfilled, but you never know how this could turn out. A reality check of this size may be the best thing that ever happens to this kid.

    GatorLane77

  • To this sentiment I say: Yes.

i really truely hope you are right.
hopefully oh ? lets say ?
maybe the parents are of a lower income , bear with me now( senario don't know if true or not).
the child needs adhd or add medicine and if gets the medicine , could very well focus enough to make the grade ?
alot of factors come into play here.
once the young man is not a member of our team so many times we read bad things happen.
    that is another senario.
and even if he never is a florida gator.
hopefully ! he still gets a education.
just when they get this close if he is close ?
    i think.
just go to school and do the best you can.
i want every child to get a education .
maybe i am old or some thing.
just always pull hard for the young people because they are our legacy.

i don't know the underlying circumstances , but it always matters .
not only from a sports perspective , but also education .
being almost 60 now. I have seen kids do average in high school do great in college.
don't know why? maybe the brain just needed a different atmosphere or something , but ?
    everyone is different.
my natural assesment as a parent would be to say.
look ! at UF the classroom size is larger , you need these first 2 years a smaller classroom.
with more hands on teaching NOW , SO ?
your fundamental base or core is strong .
    THEN pursue headfirst your dream.

    gubberjk

  • see we have kids currently on the team AND coming in from JUCO.
with james's talent and if the lord blesses him and he takes advantage and turns this negative into a positive ?
    no telling what might happen?
lord willin and the rain don't shine ?
    funny how things change.
i can still hear santa fe CC.

  • Btw, I don't ever remember seeing where somebody said that they didn't want him or didn't care that he was a part of this class. I just saw disappointment that the kid didn't cut it in the classroom.

I'm not saying that this is the case here, but we live in a society of entitlement these days. Everybody expects things to be handed to them (ok, not everybody) without the hard work that is needed. Playing football and attending the University of Florida (or any university for that matter) is a PRIVILEGE. Not a RIGHT.

There comes a time in life where you have to look in the mirror and ask, "Did I do what I needed to do?" I'm guessing that the answer is "no."

You may be correct. Maybe he has a severe learning disability, but if I had to put money down, I would bet that it was a lack of effort.

There are very few things people deserve in life....love, respect, etc. An opportunity to attend UF and play football is not deserved. It is earned. I would've LOVED to play football at UF, but I'm a slow, lanky sumbich and never would've played in a million years, so nobody is pissed off that I didn't get a football scholarship. Thankfully, I had the academics to attend and had I not, not many people would've given a crap. I would've picked myself up, learned a lesson, and moved on. Because this kid can run a 4.5 40 and hit hard it is a travesty...I say, "BS" and hopefully, "lesson learned."

Thankfully, he's young and there are still plenty of opportunities out there for him. Don't let the next ring fly by without grabbing it.

First I agree with what you are saying to a extent.
the extent being we us do not know why plus we fans are so jadded that we have no compassion.
assuming thiings to be the way we -us - precive thiings .
unless it is fact it is not debateable.
we only look at what we - us - have and lucky to have it.
yes it is a privilage to be a student of the university of florida.
that is exactly why it matters.
    exactly why it matters .
your envisioning a life changeing experiance .
i am just saying it matters.
cut it anyway you like .
    that is truth jack.
now going furthur you must understand to me the football is great.
but when i pick up on a recruit early and he commits early.
tells everyone that he is going to take his officials.
all year has not jumped ship even when urban came calling.
and now can not qualify ? for what ever reason or whoever is to be blamed .
    it matters.

Gubbs - You seem like a good person with a good heart. I appreciate the compassion that you show. The world definitely needs more compassionate people. That is not sarcasm.

With that being said, you're acting like he had no resources to help him out. Like you said, he's been committed for a year. Do you think that this is the first time that he knew that he needed to work in the classroom? Do you think that our coaching staff hadn't addressed this before? Do you think that he had no resources or help to get the grades that he needed to enroll?

The world would be a great place if it were a Disney after-school special where all we had to do was wish upon a star and our dreams would come true. Unfortunately, it's a much further swing in the opposite direction. Life is sometimes tough and full of bumps and roadblocks along the way. The sooner a person realizes that, the better. All of the successful people I know, whether it be career, sports, parenting, music, etc. became successful because of hard work.

Is it disappointing that he's not in this class? Yes. Is it disappointing that he won't be attending UF? Yes. Is it disappointing that his dream wasn't fulfilled? Absolutely. BUT, as callous as this may sound...welcome to the club. Life is not the movies and we can't all be lottery winners. It takes work and hopefully he realizes it.

I truly wish the young man the best. His football and college life is far from over and if UF is his dream he can still get there. It's just a little bit longer road now.
