FootballScoop: Brad Lawing to Florida

  • Thomas Goldkamp said...

FootballScoop is reporting Brad Lawing, the defensive line coach at South Carolina, is expected to join the staff at Florida.

FYI: There are some very good DLs coming out of S. Carolina and Virginia next year. And most are schools that had S. Carolina high

  • Since I used to live in Gainesville, be a HUGE Gator fan when Spurrier was there and pulled for you only until Urban Meyer took over (i never liked him or his offense), I feel as though I can speak freely with you guys. I always wished Urban would leave and the Gators would have success again (not moreso than South Carolina though) If Lawing leaves for Florida, I will hate you as much as I do Florida State, Tennessee and Georgia. I will make it my business to seek revenge for all Gamecocks.

Prepare your anus if Lawing is in Gainesville this upcoming season.

So you're going to stick your gamecock in our anuses?

  • Lawing was considered one of the best recruiters in the South for a long time. In fact, for years he was considered a better recruiter than coach. He's now without a doubt one of the best assistant coaches in the SEC. This is a great hire if true. I'm sure the coaching profession will consider it a coup for Muschamp.

By the way, I don't think many will disagree that right now he's a better DL coach than BY. I was really worried that we were not going to hire a true DL coach. If this hire happens, it shows once more that Muschamp really knows how to build a staff.

  • Lawing landed 3* ATH Pharoh Cooper, 3* LB Gerald Turner, and 3* DE Kendal Vickers so far this year.

4* (#5) WR Shaq Roland last year.

4* DT Kelcy Quarles, 3* RB Shon Carson, and 3* RB Brandon Wilds in 2011.

5* RB Marcus Lattimore, 3* WR Nick Jones, 3* OL Corey Robinson, and 2* QB Dylan Thompson in 2010.

    3* DB D.J. Swearinger in 2009.

3* DT Kenny Davis, 3* ATH Jay Spearman, and 3* LB Reggie Bowens in 2008.

Have to keep in mind that this is still South Carolina we're talking about, and some of those guys are some of the best players in their class that year. With more prospects to choose from, and a better brand to sell in UF, I have to think he'll do just fine on the recruiting trail.

  • BY will move on imo. Bet we hire a st's/Dl coach in his place. Jmo though

  • South Carolina fans are pissed about this seems to be a hell of a hire.

Agreed, if fan reaction is any indication, Muschamp just hit another Home Run.

He should be good at it by now, as many blocks as we laid on his UK teams.

    He's never coached ST before.

I agree with swamchomp. Writing's on the wall with Young...I think a guy who can coach ST will replace him.

  • Forgive me if this has been brought up. Fwiw, according to USC board, Lawing screwed up Carlos Dunlaps silent commitment to Cocks by bad-mouthing him directly via text, while Dunlap was visiting UF. Also saying he's a big drinker. Could be sour grapes I suppose, but they believe it.

The drinking thing isn't a huge deal for this fan. I mean he's got this far in the coaching world. shrug

I like the hire from what I can tell. Never really seen a fanbase get so upset over a DL coach leaving. I have no doubt coach did his due diligence.
