Espn's Chad Ford reports...

  • Brad Beal leaning heavily towards NBA.

  • Reports that Brad is heavily leaning but doesn't put any sources out there. Brad's mama has said the NBA will wait and people around him who have known him since he first came to the St. Louis Eagles AAU program think he stays.

Now, that being said, if he's projected top 5-6 players, I wouldn't expect him to stay.

But ... if Chad Ford is the source of this information, it's questionable at best.

  • What does chad actually say? Can't see article cuz its sub based.

Just a quick paraphrase or recap if possible ...also curious as to who he states his sources are ..thx

    chomps2007

  • He just gives a paragraph where he throws out a bunch of names and says "sources" say.

  • Well me being selfish I hope he stays. Lol. However I wouldn't be mad if he left.

  • If he leaves it will be because he's guaranteed to go in the top five -- at least that's what the people who know him best tell me. That kind of money is hard to turn down ... but Horford, Noah and Brewer did it.

FWIW, DraftExpress' latest mock draft (updated yesterday) has Beal going 10th.

Also has Young going 19th, but it'd do him a lot of good to come back.

  • I'm prolly too biased to give an honest answer but id think he,d benefit from 1 more yr where he can continue to refine his game vs competition etc vs risk of being on bench in nba ...I'm not certain he is a starting nba 2 guard right now ? Or is he at risk of only getting 15-20 min run? BUT the counter to negate any risks are that once in NBA he can train 100 percent of time yr around with best resources and no distractions ....tough call for him

The comparisons to ray Allen have died down (I think appropriate ). And now comparisons are to Eric Gordon ....which seem more accurate

    chomps2007

  • Seth davis on cnnsi has an interesting piece out where he anonymously iviewed coaches to comment on other in conf teams

1 coach said he thought young was milking injury during games cuz he looked like Carl Lewis during warmups .....think young Def needs another yr ....no way he doesn't go straight to d league if goes pro

    chomps2007

  • I think Young and Beal should both stick around another year, but I do wear O & B glasses all day, every day. I think Beal could use another year to refine his shot and mature. He is a top 10 caliber player this year or next year, barring injury.

  • Brad is getting a lot of pressure to leave....I still think he stays another year though

This is what I am wondering Lance. Franz said his mother wouldn't mind him staying. I wonder if his older brothers are in his ear about getting paid, in which THEY get paid? I haven't heard that, just curious.hoopsgators

  • I know Young will probably be selected pretty high based on potential, but he is NOT good at all right now. That kid would be crazy not to stay and develop his game on all levels. His defense is bad right now, he's got zero offensive game, and his effort just isn't good. I know he's injured, but come on.. I'd like to see what a guy like Bennett could do for his overall game. Having another "Big" offensive threat would open up so much for our offense, assuming they're put in the proper scheme and not in an offense where we everyone just shoots three's. We need some athletic guys that can and will take it to the basket and create their own shots. I know Kasey Hill is one of those guys. I hope Ogbueze becomes that guy too. Beal is getting there for sure. He's just now starting to really take his game to that next level. He's by far our best scorer and most athletic player.

If Mama doesn't want him going there isn't much chance any of the four brothers will want something different. In Brad's family if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

lol....revisionist history at its finest....."NOT good at all right now"...how soon people forget before the ankle injury Young was playing at a high level on O, D and effort and RISING up draft boards....his ankle is much worse than you guys are aware, and while I agree he needs to be doing a better job playing through it, your criticism of him is laughable at best

You really have zero understanding of basketball or decision maker under uncertainty don't you?

    1. Young in fact is good right now. He is not a great player, yet. He is not playing at the highest level possible, but to say he is "NOT good at all" is just silly.

    2. The decision to stay or go is based on many factors. Think of it this way, if someone promised you $4 million today or a chance at $100 million in a year, what would you do? What you take? It would of course depend what is the chance of $100 million? If it is 99%, then that $100 million looks pretty good. If you have a modest income and wealth and the chance for the $100 is .50%, then that sure thing looks a lot better. So Young has several million dollars on the table. It is his life and choice when he takes it. If you get injured or the scouts sour on you, those millions are gone and can not be recaptured.

    3. What can Bennett do? How many times have you seen Bennett play? Bennet is about 6'7" tall, so do you even know if he will be a 3 or a 4 in college? Do you know if Bennett has any polish to his offense or is another AAU guy who takes it to the rim against guys he is physically just better than?

  • UK will have the first 5 players drafted, so Beal would have to be #6.
