Dooley says Dooley deserves more time

  • Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun writes that Derek Dooley deserves more time at Tennessee. Seems like this article could easily be written about Muschamp should he have an identical year to last year.

  • Was anyone else really annoyed at Pat for asking that dumbass question to every coach about the kickoffs? Every coach he asked blew him off like he was some dumbass from Gville, which he pretty much is.

  • Nah, he's cooked. Doesn't recruit well despite the highest budget, can't keep a coaching staff together, and his teams have been awful. I felt bad for Dooley because he walked into suck a mess, but there's been very few signs of progress there.

    It's probably not his fault. Chances are it was his editor's decision to do a story on it, so Pat had to get quotes on it. Happens all the time. A lot of times, it's the editor setting the agenda for content, and the writers are just there to get quotes and write the story.

    Is that really how you think they'll do this year?

    I hear all the big talk from them and now some media, plus Dooley himself about how much better they should be, but I just can't see it.

    I think they will without a doubt be better, and maybe even semi dangerous at times with that passing game, but they went 1 and freaking 7 in the SEC last year with a loss to a WR playing QB for UK.. No amount of injuries can excuse that. They had Bray and Rogers and still barely beat Vandy in OT for their only SEC win.

    We had them down 30-7 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. That was with Elam, Pop, Roberson, Riggs and Watkins all starting their very first SEC game. They rushed for negative 20 yards against us. They did give up the fewest sacks in the SEC, but also had the worst running game in the SEC. Am I right in remembering us pressuring Bray all day long? That was with their entire OL back from the year before, just like this year. On top of that they have seven new asst coaches, a new scheme on defense, and Dooley is still their coach. I just don't see how we shouldn't expect to continue beating them.

    BTW: At SEC media days, UT was picked to finish FIFTH in the SEC east, behind Mizzou. UF was picked third, but wasn't far behind UGA or USCe for first place in the east.

    At Miss State is tougher than it might seem.. At Vandy could be tough too, considering Vandy gave them all they wanted last year in Knoxville, with a first year HC.. Plus I think Rogers is gonna be a good QB for them.. But, it's still Vandy so..

    If they lose to NC State to open the season, thats gonna hurt the rest of the year imo. They gotta get off to a good start for Dooley and that team to have a chance. They quit on their staff last year.. Quitters don't change their stripes.
