Do you guys believe that u have to go to UF to be a Gator Fan?

I never went to college at UF but im a diehard Gator. College just wasnt my thing. Tried Community College but just didnt work out. Thoughts?

Why is it a crime to be a gator when your of age or beyond the age to be in college, when it was completely fine from birth to age 18? Makes absolutely no sense to me. I've been to just about every home game from 1989 to 2009 and I'm only 27 years old. I've been to the 96 title game. the 97 UF-FSU game. the 00 SEC title game and the 96 SEC title game. Ive been to the Swindle and I've been to Tebows last home game. Why I can't call myself a gator fan is beyond me. People give me crap for it all the time. Now, to be honest, I refuse to actually call myself a "gator" for I feel that honestly belongs to those who attended the university, but I feel like I have the right, just as any, and maybe eve more so, to call my self a gator fan.

I was only asking bc I get tons of shit about it and it pisses me off. I bleed Orange and Blue. Til the day I die! I just wanted to hear other peoples opinions,thats it.

My story is similar to GatorVet's. I was completely infatuated with going in the military after high school. The ONLY colleges I applied to were the Air Force Acadamy and West Point. I didn't get into either and chose to serve on Actuve Duty in the Air Force. I catch a little flack about being a Gator fan and never attending school at UF but its mostly from the online message boards I go to. There are always the "elitists" who think only people who went to their school can be fans of that team. I think it's stupid considering I chose the path I did.

Nope, I graduated from UGA. Wanted to go to UF, but had the hope scholarship to attend a Ga university. As diehard a gator fan as anybody!

No way. I was a huge Gator fan before I went to 1st grade. My old man saw to that.
Most of the biggest Gator fans I know, never went to UF.

You got some weird friends, but i agree with the OP. if you have a good reason and have been a die hard fan thru thick and thin, it doesn't matter if you went to UF IMO. Only fans I don't like are the ones who like UF when we are on top then either don't care or switch teams when UF is down.
I was born at Shands when my Dad was doing his residency there, so I was raised a Gator so I imagine I would be fan whether I went there or not. That being said, I only applied to UF because I couldn't see myself going to any other school, since I was such a diehard. Military guys definitely don't need to explain their choice.

Here is my story Im actually born and raised in Buffalo, NY and was a Gator fan growing up. I had many people say how can you be a FL fan when you live in Upstate NY. I use to prance the Halls with my Gator gear. I actually had a aunt that lived in Ocala and when I was in High School I applied to FL so I could have IN STATE prices and she moved. Well I have been a Gator fans since 1990 pretty much.....

I agree. I ways found the argument that if you didn't go there, you can't be a fan, to be ironic. What do you say to a kid under 18? You can't like the Gators til you go to UF?
I always reply by saying "well I never worked/played for the Jags...can I be a fan of them?"

No you did not have to go to UF to be a Gator, all die hards are a part of Gator Nation IMO.

Hell, 90% of Bama fans only college experience is going to a Bama game, so NO.
If you cheered for UF in 10 and 11 then yes, you are a Gator!

I was born in Jax FL and Pops went to UF. I grew up in NC but have always been a diehard Gator. I went to UNC-Wilmington for college but have always repped the O&B over everything else.
