Did Muschamp take a potshot at Richt?

  • I started laughing when I heard Will Muschamp's comment at the end of his session on ESPNU, when he was asked about the Florida-Georgia game potentially moving from Jacksonville. It's on contract there through 2016, I believe.

    His response:

"I think it's a great tradition to leave it in Jacksonville. It's a great setting. Coming over the St. John's River, as a competitor, if that doesn't get your blood boiling, there's something wrong with you. You look at the tradition, the history of the game there. Coach
Dooley never complained about it being there."

Shot at Richt, who has been pretty vocal about wanting the game moved?

    shrug lol

  • Richt is such a PY. I live in ATL and I am so tired of hearing UGA fans complain about the game in Jax. They didn't complain in the 80's when they were winning. But the new generation of UGA fans act like it's the biggest disadvantage on the planet. BS. I hope we destroy them. That would be a HUGE win for Muschamp.

  • I live in Oklahoma now and grew up in Texas.

I have never heard Oklahoma fans complain that the Red River Rivalry is in Dallas. In fact they seem to love it.

  • The game could be played in Wyoming and we'd still whoop UGA's ass most of the time.

    The_Swamp

  • Yes, yes he did and I loved it.

OT I know... But hey Aussie I too grew up in Texas and live in OK now (went to UF in between), you gonna make it down to College Station on the 8th?

  • Let him whine about it being hotter in Jacksonville rather Ga. Hopefully his players will get that in their heads that they are at a disadvantage and they'll wilt in the 4th quarter because it's too hot.

Just to clear up your mis informed info...Coach Richt has never said he wanted the game moved...now have fans suggested it, yes...personally I hope it stays where it is...not sure if there is any additional disadvantage for us or not...I think the majority of fans would want the game to stay, there be some valid reasons to have home and home, but very few rivalries have a game that has this type of atmosphere...

Exactly...never has complained about the game....but yes I will say some of the fanbase has, but most that know and have participated in this like it just where it is...but it seems the minority that do get all the publicity....

and what is their reasoning? Just because Jacksonville is in FL?

Richt on whether the Georgia-Florida game should be played in Georgia sometimes: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. But when people ask me the question, ‘Do you really think [Jacksonville] is a neutral site?’, I say, ‘No, it’s not neutral.’ When you play in the state of Florida every year –- we fly, they drive; it’s hotter for us, it’s cooler for them. It’s played in a stadium that [used to be called] the Gator Bowl. But what the heck? If nothing else, we’ll make Jacksonville pay more to keep it there. . . . I wouldn’t feel bad having a ‘neutral site’ game in Georgia – in the Georgia Dome.”

No...honestly probably because we have not fared well over the last twenty years, and many of the complainers weren't around when it was different...I guess that means I was...hopefully the rivalry is back now and if it is then I suspect there will be some wins and losses for both teams over the next twenty years...I don't really see one team dominating like we have in the past twenty years or back in the dooley days...too much talent on both teams and the future is bright for both teams

I was going to tell you how wrong you were, but someone already beat me to the punch. You don't think I looked for actual quotes before I posted that Richt has been vocal about wanting the game moved out of Jacksonville?

And to be perfectly clear, I don't disagree with Richt's stance that playing in Jacksonville gives Florida an advantage.

I will stick by my original post that addressed your contention that Coach Richt has been a propponemt to.have the game moved and that is false...does he think it is totally a nuetral site...no he does not but he has never campaigned to have the game.moved...yes I think he does see some disadvantages for our team based on his quotes...but all I was addressing was that he was not the one that has suggested it be moved....a lot of the dawg nation has suggested that, and for obvious reasons, but the majority of the alumni and fanbase want it to stay as it is...but yeah, if you ask Coach Richt if he would like to play the game in the Georgia Dome sometimes, you will get a probable yes answer....so basically Coach Richt doesn't believe it is a neutral site and that's what he said about the game, but he has not actively campaigned to have it moved...spin it anyway you want, but that's how he feels...he has been asked this question in many different forums and I have never heard him campaign to have the game moved...but no he does not view it as a neutral site...

No...not wrong...the response I posted had to do with Coach Richt campaining to have the game moved which us not correct...now I agree he does not believe it is a neutral site for us, but he has not campaigned to have the game moved...I know the majority of the fanbase, alumni and former lettermen, do not support moving the game..but the minority of the people that do get all the publicity..and it makes good headlines for the ajc....anyway for what its worth, my point was to say that our Coach had not campained to have the game moved, that's not to day he wouldn't like to see it in the Georgia Dome from time to time....

Fair enough, I guess. I see his previous quoted comments to be "being vocal about moving the game." Agree to disagree.

Again, for the record, I do think it's an advantage for Florida to play in Jacksonville. Hell, as cool an atmosphere as it is with the game being in Jacksonville, I'd love for the game to go to Athens and Gainesville every third and fourth year. Two years in Jacksonville, then a home and home. That would give every four-year student a chance to experience Jacksonville as well as a home game and a road game.

I'm bummed out that I've never been able to visit Athens. Have heard nothing but the best about Athens, and if I'm not overwhelmed by work by then, I'm going to try to make it up there for the Georgia-Tennessee game this year during Florida's bye week.
