...right now? I sure do. Missouri loss tonight to LSU kills them, and I feel like Kentucky is on the verge of putting things together. Could be a more interesting SEC race than anticipated, if you ask me.

I have thought that a few other times, but then they will turn around next game and look horrible again.. So ill wait for them to string together a few solid wins before I give them the credit

I have always felt they will be our most difficult challenge in the SEC. Maybe it's just bc they are Kentucky, as they haven't played great this year, but no other team really worries me in the SEC.
Against UMs, they could not defend other than Noel and did not have much offense other than Wiltjer. Maybe they are putting it together, but boy they struggled to defend the Rebels.
That said, Ole Miss is arguably the second- or third-best team in the league and Kentucky was playing without Willie Cauley-Stein and in major foul trouble for most of the game.
I still think Alabama is better than people think ... but better than a full-strength and developing Kentucky? Not to me. But that's the beauty of evaluating things on a week-to-week basis.
Of course they are. But they aren't good enough to remotely challenge us unless we have a bad game. This is by far the worst calpari kentucky team I've seen.
Are you the guy who said we wouldn't cover the spread vs USCe?
I think they are.
I'd say KY as well. Getting better, but still work in progress. I just don't see anybody matching up with a healthy UF team yet. Fla is not running at full throttle yet either,
UK has the best talent and Noel's ability to block shots keeps other teams from easy baskets. I expected them to play up to their ability evenually.
Of course, you also didn't think we would even cover the spread against South Carolina. Did you actually think we were gonna by someling like 18 in the O'Dome?
Not sure why you think UK is going to present any challenge to us. You have consistently underestimated and undervalued this UF team, Thomas.
They might be. They weren't when conference play started, but as people expected, Kentucky is improving. Meanwhile, Missouri is really struggling, and Ole Miss is good, but hardly great.
The thing about Kentucky is that their schedule has been pretty hard. They've played a lot of tough teams. On the other hand, until this week, they hadn't beaten any of those teams either.
Billy the Kid, age 48,
5 SEC Championships,
2 National Championships...
But what is the actual threat? They aren't going to beat us out in the SEC. That's pretty much a given at this point. I guess their biggest threat is that they beat us twice? Is that the threat?
What other threat is there?
UK is probably the 2nd best team in the SEC, but the race is over. UK would have to win out to have a shot, and that's not going to happen.
Let's not forget Mizzou. Laurence Bowers is coming back and he's arguably been their most important piece. Leading scorer and second in rebounds on the team. Their slide started when he got hurt. He's the biggest injury in the SEC right now by a ton.
The times I have watched Kentucky they have looked pretty clueless. Outside of Noel they basically look like a bunch of freshmen.
And we most certainly are not talkin FIVE STAR FRESHMEN either.
He's back. And they lost to LSU.
He was but not full speed. And that's an LSU team that almost beat UK in Rupp over the weekend. I still have nightmares every time I see Anthony Hickey play. In the KY High School Sweet 16 (KY only has 1 state champion in basketball, and the tourney is incredible), he put on perhaps the greatest run in the history of the tourney. Former WKU "coach" Ken McDonald did not want to offer him a scholarship and took a run at Cezar Guerrero. Guerrero committed and then de-committed a few months later. Hickey didn't get the offer till after his Sweet 16 show, and by then LSU was in the door. Had Mac offered Hickey early on he said he would likely have been a Hilltopper. Still hurts.
I think kentucky will be scary around tournmant time all that talent having time to gel
You are correct on both counts -- I thought Carolina would cover and I have consistently underestimated this team.
But you're acting like that totally negates the value of this discussion. Did I say Kentucky was a threat to Florida? No. I asked if anyone else thought they were the second best team in the SEC and said I thought the SEC race could be more interesting than anticipated.
First, and most importantly, I just want to figure out if UK is going to make the tournament. Right now, no, but at least they have played their way onto the bubble.
Second, can we sweep them? It's been a while, and I'd love to return the favor from last year.
Third, and related, can they ruin an otherwise perfect run through the league? That would require both that we avoid slipping up - and we have a few tough games left - and that they can continue to improve. Can you imagine how electric things will be if we go into Rupp on March 9 with the chance to be the first SEC team to finish 18-0?
So, there are three reasons to discuss the issue.
I don't think the NCAA can afford not to pick KY just due to their massive following. But KY, ALA, MS, MO & maybe TN fight for the 2nd & 3rd spots in the SEC. Thought A & M might put up a fight, but they're fading fast.
Geez, I hope the SEC can get at least 4-5 teams in the NCAA's this year!! But it's not looking good today!!
Add in UK needing a win to get on the good side of the bubble facing a 17-0 UF team and it would be a wild scene in Lexington.
