No Cain, no gain.
I'll say a 7 and here's why
QB: It doesn't sound like Jeff was that much better than last season but it's hard to tell. The passing game still seems to be lacking but Dunbar and Robinson sound promising. We have no back up and we'll be relying on either a few 3*'s who are not very good, or a walk on QB.
RB: I think we'll be in great shape, the coaches seem confident in Matt Jones and Kelvin Taylor sound promising. I think Matt can handle the load if he can stay healthy, and Kelvin should see plenty of snaps this fall. Would be nice if Mack Brown would step up. I'm not concerned with our RB's.
FB: Hunter Joyer is a beast, nuff said.
WR: Outside of Dunbar and Robinson it sounds like we don't have much here. Pittman could be good, but Debose and Patton are nothing more than reverse/ jet sweep guys. Fulwood and Bailey coming in will help out, but you can't count on freshmen to be difference makers. WR will be fine down the road but this year we might struggle.
OL: I'm not too concerned with the OL, Moore and Garcia look like monsters out there and we have more depth and experience now. Hopefully with more depth and experience combined with Jeff improving we'll see a drop in sack #'s. Run game should be good next year for us.
TE: We lack tight ends, its as simple as that. Kent Taylor hasn't put on the weight, so we have Colin Thompson and some guys who have switched positions. TE is a concern for me, mostly because we need them to block and Kent is undersized.
Overall i think the running game and OL will be good, Jeff's development and the passing game/WR core don't sound like they have improved much since the fall.
But we really didn't see anything yesterday either so its hard to gauge.

I wish we knew what we wanted out of a TE and get him. My only concern this season, and every season is a QB who can move chains and score points, and utilize the weapons he is blessed with.
im not too worried i really believe we are doing all we can to get better in recruiting and the hiring of joker to help get the wr's going

Lots of wishful thinking here. Everyone seems to be relying on the OL to be better. Maybe, but I for one am not buying into that until I see it happen. JD has great physical skills, but my feeling is that he may just not have the aptitude to make the reads, etc., that are the trademarks of really good QB's. Look at Danny W, for example. His physical skills were nowhere near those of JD, but his QB'S aptitude more than compensated. I am just afraid to get excited yet.

I'm at a 4 or a 5 right now. RB/FB/OL should be fine. Jeff has got to start reading the field quicker and has to know when to get out of the pocket. Needs to learn that sometimes it's best to just throw the ball away. My only concern about the WR's is that they are unproven. All of them are extremely talented, which we all know. Yet they never put it together. Nothing can really be taken from the spring game because D-Rob, Pittman, and Dunbar are all hurt. Once they're healthy and the other 4 receivers arrive, we should be great. Hopefully the enhanced oline will give em more time to get open. TE is a scary situation right now. In the end I think Colin will end up being the man for the job but a of right now it's not looking too good. Plenty of time to get it together. Just my 2 cents
3 or 4.
Worried about Driskel. He did not improve as a passer throughout the season last year. He was still holding the ball too long and locking on Sat.
Little worried about WR. Mainly because we need the younger guys to really step up and be playmakers. Our veteran WR's are nothing special and would be 2's or 3's on a lot of other teams. Going young or bust their. Prove me wrong Dunbar.
At TE, I am actually not worried. There's not a more creative pro style OC than Pease. He does an excellent job of masking weaknesses and breaking tendency. He's also great at putting people in the best matchup/position to succeed. I expect CT to be the inline TE and get a lot of looks off PA. I expect Taylor to be a flex TE option meaning he run a lot of routes out of the slot. Pease will mix it up enough with sets and looks that we won't be as bad off at TE as most expect.

I would say my concern is fairly high. This seems like 2011 all over again in terms of the QB situation. If JD goes down like JB did, we are toast. Also, we still do not have a NFL caliber receiver who has caught a ball for us. Sure, the new recruits look good on paper but the best one came in early and did not seem to impress all that much. We hear the oline will be good but having only 6(!!) actually compete in the spring is ridiculous. If the injuries mount in the fall, we will struggle to run the ball as well. Tightend by all accounts is an unknown factor at best. If we match the 2012 production on offense, we probably will be fortunate. Defenses this year will just stack the box in an attempt to shut down the run. If JD is not able to loosen things up or he gets hurt again, we are in for a very long year without a reliable kicker to help bail us out. It just looks to me like Champ is not recruiting the premium talent needed to have a great offense.
Jesus dude....do you even expect us to get off the bus when we play Toledo?
No he doesn't, I never realized how many professional coaches, and QB guru's we had in our fanbase. Maybe they can run the team from the internet, since winning 11 games, in the first year of an offense, with a 1st year starting QB (and 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio), in the SEC, is so bad. How will we ever win again?
