Tweleve years ago I was blessed to meet a guy by the name of Anthony Grant. He introduced himself and wanted to recruit David Lee. After meeting Billy D and being heavily recruited David committed to UF. He played four year and finally reached his potential his senior year. The one constant was the support from Billy D and the patience he had with David. Fast forward 10 years and a young kid named Bradley Beal was recruited by Billy D and became a gator. Even though he stayed a year Billy D made him a better person, and a better player. He helped Bradley through the tough times and was a mentor. Today is a special day for Bradley and I wanted to thank Billy D. It get me so upset that people bitch on this board about Billy recruiting, or why he doesnt have the talent KU or Duke or kentucky has. What Billy has done at a football school is amazing and nothing short of a miracle. So the next time you want to gripe about losing a player to a blue blood or you dont have enough bigs look back and see what Billy D has accomplished at UF. UF is a lucky university to have a coach and a man that they can call their own.
Agreed 100 percent. Ferd, you are insightful when the rest of the world wears bifocals.

Criticizing his recruiting, fine. Bitching, nah.
Billy Donovan doesn't get enough credit nationally, but I think Gator Nation -- at least the UF hoops fans -- recognizes how good he is.
Best Coaching hire in football/basketball in the past 30 years in ALL of the NCAA.
Its easy to confuse someone's temporary frustration with a more general discontent - especially on a message board. Some Gator fans have occassionally been disappointed with losing a particular recruit here and there, and they've not always expressed it in a clear or mature way. Still, that's very different from wishing we had a different guy.
I will be clear. He would be my first choice to lead the Gator program, both yesterday and today. There's not a coach in college basketball I would trade for him.
Billy the Kid, age 48,
5 SEC Championships,
2 National Championships...
amen my friend, amen
Bullseye! 100% dead on the money. Gotta stamp his name on the court or dome!!
Someone said something like this the other day on another board about old time UF basketball fans like me. I said about that one it should be pinned to the top of the board.
BTW, I think Lance it is the opposite. Donovan gets lots of credit nationally and UF fans in general do not recognize how good they have it.
I've stated BIlly is the best coach in the country for years now. Kind of har to get people to believe me when living within 30 min of Cameron indoor and the Dean Dome but ive watched enough basketball and in my mind without a doubt Billy is the best out there
I love Billy D. He is a great coach and mentor for young men. I could watch his interviews all day. He represents UF very well and is a great role model for anyone. Sure, I bitch at times, but as I said before: Billy deserves a new arena that's named after him with a statue of himself right out front! Thank you Billy! Gatornation loves you! Also congrats to Bradley Beal!
From my perspective as a Texas fan, Billy D is a top 5 coach in the nation.
You guys may complain about his recruiting, but we have Barnes who overachieves in that area and underachieves in results. Billy has a system that is working for him. We have Barnes who just gets unlucky and is just not as successful as he should be. And this is coming from one of the few Texas fans who defends Barnes. Just imagine the haters.
But the Florida program as Billy has created it, is fantastic as a football first school.
