I really don't understand our passing game. When we play teams like Bowling Green they throw quick before our pass rush can get to the QB. Even WM says you can't sack the QB cause they get the ball out so fast. It's very effective and Bowling Green had success.
Why don't we do the same? It's obvious our O-line has a hard time blocking for longer passing routes.
I'll try to ask either Muschamp or Pease this week.

WM says if you keep doing the same thing you get the same RESULTS.
When we are getting penalties and negative plays it makes the recievers run longer routes on 3rd down and they send the pass rush. Jeff is trying to make a play and pick up the first but its hard when the recievers are running 10 yard routes and they are sending a blitz. We need to cut down the penalties on early downs and sacks they are killing us.
Not sure Driskel/WR's understand "hot route" concepts.
That's true...but when the short passing game is working you are in 3rd in short a lot. Which means you can run or throw and the defense is on its heels. Georgia was in FULL ATTACK mode.
yeah, that's kind of interesting. One of our TDs against Tenn was when we used a hot route I think. But we didn't seem to be doing it against UGA.
Yup. It's amazing what can happen when it's executed, but the QB and WR's need to read the same thing and know what to do.
I don't think either do.
Agreed. I'll say I'm less sold on Bush Hamdan potentially staying on staff permanently after the last month.
Another thing...Driskel was recruited as a spread option QB by Urban Meyer. WM choose JD over JB because of his speed. I don't understand why they don't take more advantage of JD running ability a bit like Johnny Football at TAMU.
Whenever the end bites on the handoff JD gets long runs when he keeps the ball. QB sneaks etc.
Jeff is a first year starter in a new system give it time.
Pease knows what he is doing
I am good with still being a running team, but IMO we have to pass more on 1st down, especially these short throws JD makes well, to keep teams off balance and not continue to get in 2nd and 3rd and long....all the running up the middle on 1st down for little to no gain is killing us...and then we have to throw it further down the field on 2nd and 3rd down, and BAM, sacks and fumbles happen
Running up the middle for little gain to mediocre gain is exactly what will put us in favorable third downs.
we have not run it well at all on 1st down lately, and it has not put us in 3rd and favorable...getting 2 or less yards, as we have lately, has killed us because we cannot pass block well enough for longer pass routes to develop...
Short passing game is not the answer though. No teams respect our WRs.
We need to run block better, make first down a 3-4 yard play.
we need to do both better....JD can hit the short to intermediate throws with great accuracy, and with Reed a consistent performer and Dunbar now a pretty good WR as well we can use this more....
Teams are biting on short routes because we have no vertical game. We have no vertical game because of pass blocking.
Doesn't have anything to do with first down runs.
