We played very average tonight and blew out a top 15 team,..we missed A TON of open looks from 3 we normally make and the game was never in doubt from about 10 min left in 1st half on..
and PY was a beast tonight...I think a lot of time as people focus on his shortcomings (low post scoring, FT) they miss just jow great of a team and individual defender he is...he is on that Noah/Horf level as a defender now with how he can guard the other teams guards off pick and roll and keep them from the basket
Just think back to last season ... KB goes 3-13 against a good squad ... we either lose, or barely pull it out ... this year< we blow the doors off of a Top-15 team.
Great thoughts. Bullis, I was thinking the same thing. It was an average performance tonight, which is scary. I thought Ole Miss was lucky to score what they got though, because Henderson is the only reason it was even somewhat of a game. Many of his 3's were difficult or crazy shots that landed.
Pat had a really good game defensively. Love the fact we didn't play at our best and still won by 14 against a very good Ole Miss team.
Yeah, also the refs were freaking terrible. Billy is a pretty laid back coach, but he was livid with them tonight. I think it'd definitely be a 20 point win if they called it normally.
Absolutely. The refs were pretty bad.
I kept looking at the score shocked we were so far ahead at some points cause we looked sloppy for a few stretches. When this team learns how to play well even during a shooting slump It's over. We force when cold, shouldn't have too. When you have five guys on the floor who can score you should almost never need to take bad shots.
You can take it to the bank that the game will be reffed horribly when Tony Greene is on the dance card in stripes.
Great seeing Young in beast mode the last few games. He was making shots and getting rebounds like we thought he could all along. Boynton seems to be either hot or cold and tonight was one of the cold ones. Would like to see better consistency in his game, never know what to expect from his offense. Is he gonna hit 8 in a row or is he gonna shoot you out of a game?
And that's so disappointing because in my few years here, Tony has been one of the best refs. This has not been a good year for him.
Best ref is Doug Shows, by far!
Past President of the Rowdy Reptiles (Men's Basketball Rowdies).
Size up the rings..
Teddy Valentine is the best ref when it comes to UF....guy loves BD and we always get more calls than not when he does a big game of ours
Ist time Billy has ridden the refs most of the game. They were calling touch fouls on Fla & letting Pat get mauled on the other end. Very one sided/inconsistant calls. That'a what Billy was upset with.
Ole Miss did play good D against Fla. They guarded the perimeter & tried to take away the 3 pt. shot & did a very good job. UF just has very balanced scoring & that is their strength on O.
Give Ole Miss some credit, they had a good game plan. As Bullis said, we did not play our best & still won easily despite the final score.
Ole Miss could spoil somebody's tourney hopes in March IMO. A solid team. Henderson is for real.
while I thought several of the calls were abysmal-it was the announcers that once again showed their bias against UF-I just do not understand why it seems every game the announcers openly favor the other team.

And that's a first down!
Agree with this. I didn't think we played very well last night. We hit some threes early then fell in love with the shot instead of continuing to dominate in the low post. This team is good enough to get away with that against SEC competition, but let's be honest, the SEC title is essentially in the bag. I'm looking big picture. I hope the crappy comp doesn't bite us in the long run.
They always let Pat get mauled without calling fouls.
I'm piggybacking off Floyd's thoughts.
There are quite a few teams that could dominate the SEC this yr. Im definitely not discrediting, what UF has been able to do, up to this point. Billy D's defensive answers have been key. But, UF still allowed a 10-0 run, a 13-3 run, etc last night. Those same runs happened against 'Zona and the outcome was different.
I love this backcourt. But, I would love to see them be able to overcome an off shooting night, and have the confidence in PY to dominate. I say this because, those losses to Butler and Louisville, might not have occurred if the guards noticed that the gm was there to be won inside, coming down the stretch.
With that said, this team is still amazing.
I must have been watching another game. I thought they were very found of UF.
every time the ole miss hotshot hit a shot the play by play guy went bonkers
I would have, too. They were ridiculously contested shots. Can't fault them for being positive about Henderson last night. Dude was on point.

That is part of why bigs built like him do better in the nba sometimes.
IMO Henderson was stunning ......... as TG just said the kid was dialed in, against a lesser team and a lesser defender than Scottie that kid would have dropped in 40 - 45 last night. You notice the kids eyes? Man
is he intense or what! I enjoyed watching him last night (provided we kept a double digit lead). I get it that he can get under someones skin with his body language and game but he is ........ good.
Speaking of Ole Miss, they were better than I expected. They may have collapsed against UK but Kennedy has a nice club. They have size, they defend well and they have a modern day Pistol Pete. Can't blame Ole Miss for being excited.
As Bullis mentioned I thought Ole Miss played well and UF was a bit off in phases. Turnovers, cold shooting and I think Ole Miss dicated the tempo more than Billy was comfortable with. Yet the Gators still won by 14. Had SW and KB been on UF may have won this game by 25 - 30. These are the kind of games that validates Billys approach, you build a team that can attack you and beat you in multiple ways, defense, rebounding and ball distribution (balanced scoring) with four or five double digit guys.
My Gator POTG - Big Patrick - He was pounding against two bigs and did a great job. Double Double. Way to work Mr. Young!!!!
All in all a big win. And how about a little appreciation for the Gator Fan base! Man they turned out!! Good job Gator Nation ............... UF has a special BB team this year, keep turning out and supporting these kids!!
