You are 100% correct. He plays in the same level of football as the team that I work with here in KY. We won the state title and 8 of the top 10 teams were from within an hour of Bowling Green, KY. And other than Bowling Green High (my team) and John Hardin (#2), no other team is playing elite football in 5A in KY. Bowling Green played alot of the top teams from other levels, but Timmons team beat up on weak, smaller schools on the other side of the state. The difference in football between western and eastern Kentucky is pretty drastic. The semifinals for the western side of the state is the de-facto title game, and the actual title game is more of a coronation. And his team got dusted in the semifinals against a team that Bowling Green crushed. I love the team I cover, but even Bowling Green would get hurt in D2 in Tennessee or any of the good conferences in Florida.
Timmons is a good player and had a good reputation. We looked at film on his team in prepping for the state run. He was a man amongst boys, but the boys were so small and slow. To be honest I'm really, really surprised that UF is making a run at him. Nice player, supposedly a good kid, but I never got a sense that he was elite. Several coaches that coached against him this past year are also surprised.
Thanks for your insight. That's good info. I got the same vibe watching Timmon's highlights, I think Clark is a much more dynamic/elite player.
