Team practiced at 5:40 today. Wanted to do that so they're recovered for Saturday's scrimmage. Want recovery time and film review so they know what they need to hit tomorrow.
Good tempo this morning. Thought Wednesday's practice was a little complacent. Today's was much better.
Max Garcia missed today with a back injury, should be back tomorrow.
Half-practice / scrimmage tomorrow because the offensive line is about five guys down this spring.
HS coaches clinic today, very happy with the help they give Florida in recruiting the state. SEC officials also on campus for their clinic.
Very pleased with the attitude and effort of the team this morning. Have to continue that. Team uses refs at every practice. Had some issues with alignment today, some offsides on defense today. No question they use that to get the team ready.
Muschamp said it's fun to coach a guy like Antonio Morrison. Describes him as a self-starter, self-motivator. He's going to go out and do his job every day. Very fired-up guy. Muschamp on Morrison, "You'd rather say 'woah' than 'giddyup'," in terms of having to tell him to reign it in sometimes.
Morrison and Taylor along with the safeties call the plays in the defense.
Muschamp said depth at linebacker and safety, along with tight ends and playmakers at receiver are a few things he's really needing to see strides from in the scrimmage.
Dunker's still suspended for now. Still waiting for legal process to take its course.
Kitchens and McMillian have both repped at Mike with Anzalone out. Likes to have guys that can play everywhere. Mike and Will are very similar, so it's easier for guys to learn both of those spots.
Joyer is a major anchor for the offense. Smart football player who can play a bunch of different roles in the backfield -- fullback, one back, short-yardage back, etc.
Muschamp said the line has enough guys, they're just a little more banged up than usual with guys out from postseason surgeries. They're just a little bit limited there right now. Said it mostly hinders them in the 11-on-11.
Muschamp jokes that the defense thuds Matt Jones and thinks they made the tackle. "I want to see if they can really make the tackle." Great line, basically can't wait to see what Jones can do when the tackling goes live this spring.
Brian Poole has really pleased Muschamp this spring. Has some nice coverage ability.
Muschamp said one of the things that stuck out about Matt Jones in the recruiting process was his ability to catch out of the backfield. Needs to get a little more consistent catching out of the backfield and just showing up to work every day. He saw the light go off late in the year. First offseason was very good. First couple days of spring were very good, but he got a little lackadaisical in the last few practices.
Anzalone and Rolin are still getting every mental rep in the classroom and the practice field. They're still out there understanding what's going on, which still helps.
Muschamp just said something that made it sound like the added emphasis on throwing to the running backs this spring is in big part because the tight ends can't be counted on right now.
Kickers have been bad, from what Muschamp's telling us. Does say replacing one of the best kickers in school history makes it tough.
That's all for now.
These TE's need to step up big-time especially Trey, he is abot the only one who can get those YAC that Reed was so great at. I think all the screens and short passes go to Trey for YAC yards and mid and deep routes will go to Kent!!! DAMN AC LEONARD...Good Post TG
Might need to recruit a kicker again this yr?
"Who was your source? Church mice in here....." - Coach Muschamp
Es no bueno...
Not having a reliable kicker is going to be very bad for us. Our offense has to improve dramatically, especially in the redzone, or we will lose a few extra games without a kicker. Last year Caleb bailed us out a lot and helped us win games when our offense couldn't convert.
having a shaky kicker situation is very alarming, thats the difference between 1 loss and 3-4
LORD FORGIVE ME FOR THE GOON DADDY IS COMING OUT TONIGHT
What I'm getting is we will have a better running game no tightend but prob better receiver play. Oline I'm skeptical I think having green back will help out and if dunker gets him self together we.could be really good and if Humphries gets more physical we could.be excellent. Defense we will rush the passer better and play the run about the same corners we won't miss a beat linebacker we won't be as good to start the season but by seasons end should be a strong group if everybodys healthy. Safeties I'm thinking we won't be as physical might cover a tad bit better but will likely have a rotation. Marcus maye might transfer if he doesn't show improvement
Go look at Pease's response about Trey being a tight end. He may okay in the slot or run the ball, but he's not a TE in any way, shape, or form. Pease actually laughed when somebody asked him about Trey being a TE. I think Clay will do a little this year, though I realize I'm in the minority. He would have last year if he could catch, and it appears he's worked on that. We'll know soon.
