IMO, is the key guy on the team that could very well get the Gators over the Elite 8 hump. Several on the Board have railed on the guy, but the negativity really isn't warranted. If you really pay attention to detail, Kenny B brings more to a game & his team than just chucking up 3's - which is what fans mostly focus on or his ability to score.
He's the team Sr. leader. He's confident & helps instill confidence in his team mates (an intangible). He's experienced (4 yrs., 3rd Elite 8 appearance) & knows what to expect going into a huge game. He's a defensive stopper - can negate an opposing teams lead scorer. Can handle the ball, doesn't turn it over often & can push the ball up the court fast. He's durable & tough, stays in the game multiple minutes. He can score if he gets off to a good start even though he's struggled a bit this season, but the opposing team cannot overlook him & they know this. He loves this team & they love him back - when he catches fire, so does the team (intangible). He includes every team mate in the process. Just look at a comment he made in a recent interview:
“We've prepared the right ways for games consistently,” Boynton said. “Not saying the previous teams haven't, but I think everyone on the team contributes. Even the freshmen, they don't get in much, but they do a great job at preparing us, giving us a great look from the other team in practice.”
The guy is a winner & knows what it takes to win at a very high level. I love him on this team & what he brings to the table for this spectacular bunch of Gators.
So here's to Kenny B, THE Sr. leader on the team. Sure hope he can push these Gators boys over the Elite 8 hump & back to Atlanta where they belong! I can't rail or knock on a born leader or winner!! Let's go Gators - Atlanta or bust!
Great post. It's easy to get caught up in the fact that he's not scoring 15 a game, but he's doing a lot of other things.
Great ball movement, nice handles, has really been attacking the basket lately. Pretty much won the second Alabama game for us with how own run. And he's a great defender, too.
He hasn't been forcing many threes lately, either. I don't remember him taking a shot against FGCU and me thinking, Man that was a bad shot.
I'd love to see KB, Murph, and Mike get to experience the Final Four before they leave Gainesville. Those guys, particularly the first two, were so key in terms of getting this program back to elite status after the back-to-back NITs.
Great post Jeff! KB is bout to ball out today... I got that feeling.
yep I think KB takes over when we need it
Me too gatorphi! They have their chance today. It wasn't that long ago where I read many posts on this Board about this years team won't be that good, at least not advance this far after losing Brad to the draft & a 4 yr. starting pt. grd. in Erv. Especially all the pre/early season hate on Scottie as the designated starting pt. grd. on this team prior to the season opener.
No surprise why Billy was named Coach of the Year in the SEC! As Ferd has said many times - he can bring out the best in his kids & really develop players as well as coach em up to exceed our expectations!
"Who was your source? Church mice in here....." - Coach Muschamp
Count me in as one who rallied around Kenny. How soon all these who criticize him forget what he meant to our program when he signed as a top recruit and as a freshman for a team that had lacked a true 2 guard since Humphrey left. Kennys teams have gone to 4 straight NCAA touraments and now 3 straight elite 8s.
Say what you want about the kid but in my opinion he saved our program. He deserves nothing but thanks and respect
Great post. +1
I followed Kenny throughout his high school career and recruiting. Wanted him to be a Gator more than anything and got my wish. Have enjoyed watching Kenny be a Gator ad a great Gator at that. Hope he has a great game and leads team to ATL and Final Four and hopefully a national championship!!
Excellent post by the OP...+1
Love KB, kid definition of a fighter, came in natl top 10 kid/huge scorer rep, expected to be a 2 and done kid
Obv didn't happen, struggled mightily at start, kept fighting/working on his game, playing role BD wanted him/needed him to play
Now he is a glue guy on a balanced squad, great to see he didn't let the HS rep/ego/entourage mindset pollute his mind and make him think he knows better than staff
Think complaints /msg board heat he takes come from fact he was billed as the savior coming out of HS and supposed to be this 1 and done NBA talent we beat dook to sign
Perversely, if KB had been ranked as a top 35 natl recruit vs a McD AA/top 10 kid his accomplishments would be looked at differently
So goes it, just hope BD keeps signing good kids, willing to work hard and listen/learn and wouldn't hurt if they have NBA size and athleticism too!!! Lol if BD does that, he has been proven to be a good enough talent developer to turn guys into elite units
LMAO some of you guys are soft. I will be at the game rooting for KB and the boys. I just don't feel like KB is going to come out of nowhere and play like an AA. I actually feel like the less amount of shots he takes, the better our percentages are of winning. I just want to see him defend hard on defense and dribble drive on offense and either finish strong or kick out to our better shooters. Also want to see him play clean on offense, not turn the ball over.
Rosario has been the man the past couple games and fully expect him to be the man again. If Kenny contributes on top of that, Michigan is in for a long game.
Rosario is the go to guy this tourney. He is the Beal, Parsons we need to go far. Boynton finally finding his shot in the tourney would just be icing on the cake. But he's got a 6 foot 6 guard named Hardaway guarding him, so it won't be easy.
He did play a complete game against FGU. IMO, best all round game for him this season. The O rebound & put back in the 2nd half was huge, as was the drive down the lane untouched for a layup & the kiss off the back of the FGC player for the dunk on the inbounds were all big pts for the Gators.
KB has sinlge handedly kept us in games before so it's not unreasonable it could happen again. Not saying its likely, but people aren't soft (whatever that means) for believing so.
I think Rosario and Boynton can both be hot today..and may have to be to advance. We need our three seniors to step up(you too murphy).
Kenny doesn't turn the ball over much ...
He doesn't have to play like an AA, just be productive on offense ...
We're not going to beat meatchicken by out scoring them.
We're going to beat them with defense, Rosario's biggest weakness.
His scoring plays a big part in our success in this tourney, but it's not the key to our success.
Agreed we can't go into a shoot out with them. But defense is Yuegette, Prather, Wilbekin, Young, and Boynton. Murphy and Rosario have to make their contributions on the offensive side of the ball and we do need offense too.
Said as much, but I dislike the amount of shots he takes - especially when he's lacking in the most important part of our makeup. Murphy is a better defender, he shouldn't be categorized as an offense only player IMO. He may not get blocked shots, nor many steals, but he does a decent job of being a position defender.
I'm glad I don't drink the Kool aid around here
I'm glad you are a UCLA fan now. Damn you are annoying.
