This is an interesting UF blog post. Here is the beginning:
"GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With each passing day, next season gets a little closer for two sort-of Florida basketball players.
But these dog days (and dog-eat-dog practices) of February can be really tough on a collegiate transfer.
In the case of swingman Dorian Finney-Smith, a freshman starter and rising star at Virginia Tech a year ago, and center Damontre Harris, a Southeastern Conference All-Defensive team selection at South Carolina last year, it’s been tough on the two of them."

good article...and can't wait till they don the orange and blue next year...going to be awesome!
DFS has been, by a good margin, the best player on the team in practice and frankly since he got on campus...I expect a big year from him next season at the SF spot, and a little PF mixed in as well.....kid is a 1st RD talent no question
Combined with the vets, and Walker and Hill, WOW!! We are gonna have so much talent, I sure hope they can continue to gel.
Winningest Program in College Football since 1990!
Well, I do hope it translate easily for him. I remember similar stories about Rosario and it took him a year to get it together.
Exactly, we heard similar stories about Macklin and then Rosario. Both have become solid players, but UF also recruits and signs solid players.
Thank you for the update, Bullis!!!
Been doing a lot of wondering about DFS. And Harris!
Chris Walker and Kasey Hill are both super talents coming in.
With Scottie, Will, Casey P and Mike F returning - Add the 2 Super Frosh and 2 proven Transfers...
OMG. I am on the verge of freaking out over next year's TALENT LEVEL.
IMO Billy's most talented lineup ever. EVER.
AND that my friends is SAYING SOMETHING.
Wow. You do realize that UF is losing:
1. 6'10" guy shooting almost 50% from the arc after this seaason.
2. two McDonald's AA guards.
Heck there are only 3 McDonald's AAs on this squad this year and UF may lose all three of them.
Of course I did see some research on this phenominon of more publicity and excitement about recruits than about actual players:

It takes some serious obliviousness to mention that Florida's losing McDonald's All-Americans as a negative and lament how we overrate recruits in the same breath.

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this team. Great chemistry, everyone understands his role, and a true commitment on the defensive end. With all that said, DFS and Hill would be the two best players on this team. Harris is probably a very slight downgrade from Young, and Walker is going to bring a level of athleticism to the 4 spot that I'm not sure we've ever had under Billy. The only thing that worries me is replacing all those 3 balls from Murphy, Rosario, and KB. Frasier is a flat-out stud, but we'll need Graham and DWalk to step up.
I guess it could look that way to someone who does not understand the concept of making a point using the data that the people with opposing views think is valid?
I guess you always try to make your points by forcing people to accept the data you view as valid come hell or high water. How well is that working out for you?
We might agree that talent does not equal RSCI or other recruiting accolades. Perhaps we don't agree that someone arguing that UF will be more talented next year is doing so on that basis?
As excited as I am for next years team I have to agree that InstiGator makes a good point. Murph, Kenny, and MikeRo are our top 3 scorers and combine for 38.5 ppg. If we lose Pat that is our 4th scorer at 10.8 for a total of 49.3 ppg that would have to be replaced not to mention the veteran presence that those four offer.
I'm sure the Gators will field good teams in football, basketball & baseball in the future! Regardless of what names are in the program, Gators will continue to do quite well. Just enjoy this years teams. My crystal ball never really proved too reliable when looking into the future, so I traded it in for a 60'' flat screen high def TV so I can watch this seasons teams!
Nothing like the present! Go Gators! Beat KY!
lets start w/ reasonable assumptions
1. this yrs squad really doesnt have a NBA 1st rder sans gottlieb outlier 1st rd grade for PY -- hence why IU loses and stays #1 or uMich doesnt drop...no one wants to believe this hodge podge group of guys that individually doesnt scare anybody but as a group is a well oiled machine just keeps blowing teams out/winning but doesnt get national respect
2. Doe Doe is an upgrade over Prather at a min -- too many data points from insiders, K Hill said he is a beast / best on squad already etc...kid is 6 7"+ long arms/can jump out of gym / hit the 3 ball/dribble and guard 3 spots -- total difference maker for defense alone at the SF spot
3. Next yr squad will have 2-3 NBA first rders (Hill, Walker, DFS, maybe DH/PY if around , MFII down the line looking like a pro)
4. Not all McD AA's are the same...bet Mike Ro and KB are basically one of the only Mc D AA's from their respective classes still in college...both have aspects to their game that keep them from being truly elite - KB - height/ball handling/shot form/3pt % and Mike Ro has some of the same issues
that said, I love this team -- they overachieve like no ones business -- can tell they love playing together, BD has got them playing unselfish / playing hard defense -- really like 04ers / humph squad...just w/out 3 NBA lotto picks on the front line and great big man depth
next yrs squad looks more like an NBA squad on paper....IF BD can get them to play anywhere near as hard and unselfishly as this years squad .....SKY THE LIMIT
I believe either Young or randle on our roster next year. without one of them, we will have no low post threat. Harris is raw offensively and Walker at this point is a face up 4 who needs to develop a low post game. i know i am being nit picky but we need one of them to keep the defense honest.
who knows maybe harris will surprise everyone and be a double digit scorer but i just dont see it from him
Mike Rosario is in his 5th year out of HS so its a given all of those McDs AAs are gone except for Larry Drew (another transfer)
Suprisingly a lot of the AAs from 09 with Kenny are still playing in college - T.Wear, D. Wear, A. Oriakhi, W. Judge (all transfers), P. Siva, Mason Plumlee, D. Strickland, R.Kelly, M.Jennings, D. Taylor, A. Gaddy, and M. Snaer
Just out of curiosity how many points did we have returning the year after David Lee graduated, and Anthony Roberson and Matt Walsh left early for the NBA draft?
I think it was the 05-06 season.
Turns out, at least for that season, the LOW number of returning pts (30ish) and AWESOME quality of the players that left were not exactly huge impediments to our success.
In 2005-2006 and we returned sophmores T.Green 3.9 ppg, J.Noah 3.5 ppg, A.Horford 5.6 ppg, C.Brewer 7.5 ppg, juniors L.Humphrey 4.8 ppg and C.Richard 3.3 ppg, and senior A.Moss 2.4 ppg. Its hard to use the 04s as compared to the average returning batch of players. They defined the term "lightning in a bottle".
I guess using the ppg argument doesnt really support my opinion as to what we are losing. Roberson and Walsh were gunners and as a team we were far from great defensively. Lee was fantastic but still to this day is not a very strong interior defender. I would take Kenny, Erik, and MikeRo over Roberson, Walsh, and Lee just because they have become part of a great Billy Donovan team.
The 04-05 group had its moments (SEC tourney 04/05) and then fell flat on its face in the NCAAs. There is a BIG difference in the veterans on the 04-05 team and our veterans now. The 04-05 guys were bounced in the first weekend of the tournament every single year - 01/02 2nd Rd loss to Temple by 21 pts. 02/03 2nd Rd loss to Michigan St. by 22 pts. 03/04 1st Rd loss to Manhattan by 15 pts. 04/05 2nd Rd loss to Villanova by 11. The Seniors this year have been to back to back Elite 8s

You're trying to make the point that someone being a McDonald's All-American -- being judged to have talent at 17 -- is somehow germane, and a lack of McD A-As is trouble, and also make the point that we overrate recruits. I think that's arguing against yourself; you can't have it both ways, bruh.
Florida's gonna be fine regardless, and I think the talent level is higher on next year's team than this one, but Erik Murphy's the guy Florida is definitely going to lose who was not a burger boy, and he's the one of those three that's most valuable to this team (plays a more valuable position, shoots better, is more of a matchup problem). He's also improved a lot more than Boynton (who was always good, and stepped up his shot) and Rosario (who really just needed a year of on-court adjustment to Billy) have, because Billy's a far better coach than he is a recruiter -- and he's a very good recruiter.
I'm not worried about losing guys because they were McDonald's All-Americans, and I'm not super-gratified that Hill, Walker, DFS, Harris, etc. are all highly-touted guys; I'm worried about losing proven quantities and gratified that we've got a bunch coming in that has a lot of talent.
