"I like when coaches instead of talking about basketball all the time check on the other things," said Walker. "Like for instance coach Billy Donovan, whenever he calls he is always asking about my family and everything else before he even mentions basketball. I'm not going to say names, but with some other schools all they care about is basketball."
Speaking of Donovan's Gators, the consensus has been that they are the team to beat in Walker's recruitment. He wouldn't call them the out and out leader, but did say they are doing very well with him.
"I guess you could say that they are in the driver's seat," said Walker when asked if the Gators lead. "I'm still open of course and maybe a few visits can change mind."
Good to read. Hopefully Donovan will build upon that and get him to become a Gator.
Great news!! I believe Billy D will seal the deal and Walker will be a Gator!!

Franz, I figure you have some insight on this and I don't want to start a thread about it... But what I'm wondering is what happen with Kwame Brown and UF? I have found a few articles that had Kwame saying it didn't matter if he was the #1 over all pick that he would still come to UF, and planned on staying at least a few years. I understand money was probably the main thing, just curious if Donovan thought he was for sure going to sign to Florida or? Just anything at all on the matter would be appreciated...
Kwame Brown wanted to come to Florida but he was the #1 pick in the entire draft and couldn't say no to the money. Plus, he had an "advisor" who has basically gotten rich off Kwame over the years. That's another story altogether.
Kwame has said many times that he needed the seasoning and coaching he would have gotten in college, that he was way too immature and had no idea how much of a demand pro basketball was.
I would guess that his advisor has taken probably 40-50% of the money Kwame has earned over the years. He got a lot of bad advice.
Billy never told Kwame to walk away from the money. He doesn't ever tell kids what to do but he tries to make sure they have good people surrounding them so they can make the best decisions. I think Billy was upset that Kwame didn't have better people surrounding him and giving him good advice.
Appreciate it Franz, had heard a lot of people say a thousand times if Kwame would have chose college it was UF no questions asked. Just didn't know if it was more than just the money witch obviously it was.
If Kwame could do it all over again and you eliminate the bloodsucker who has gotten rich off him, then I think he would have come to Florida and stayed for one or two years. He was a marvelous talent and really needed mentoring and advising.
What happened with Kwame makes me appreciate all the more Matt Ramker, who has been a steady, guiding influence on Marreese Speights. Ramker made sure that Marreese was surrounded by people who would watch out for him and take care of him. When Marreese quits the NBA he will never have to worry about money for the rest of his life.
Ramker is the AAU coach right? Kasey Hills coach?
It is not a matter of who he would have picked. Kwame Brown actually signed with UF in the early signing period November 2000:
So Brown actually picked UF.
Here is the UF link on his signing:
So this is not like who Kobe Bryant would have picked or Labron James would have picked, Kwame Brown did pick.

Ramker runs the Florida Rams. He picks the coaches and the players for his teams. Kasey Hill and Chris Walker play for the Rams.
Jeff Simmons & Dexter Moore coach the FL Rams. Simmons is Kasey's legal guardian. Dex is Dallas Moore's dad. Dallas is a killer shooting guard. Ramker is the "GM"! All three are First Class. All the college coaches have their cell nbrs!!
Dallas Moore is nails from the three-point line. Reminds a lot of people of Lee Humphrey the way he can go off hitting threes.
Does Kwame ever hang out in G'ville in the summers like a lot of former players? I thought I read at one time he bought a house near coach Donovan.
UF...ASSOC OF AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES MEMBER...3-TIME FOOTBALL NATL CHAMPION..2-TIME BASKETBALL NATL CHAMPION..31 ATHLETIC NATL CHAMPIONSHIPS!
Just for fun my guess would be:
Kobe - Duke
Lebron - Ohio St
Dwight - UNC...maybe GA Tech
He purchased a house in Haile Plantation in Gainesville. It was in same neighborhood as Billy at that time.
