...at the request of Gov. Rick Scott.
UF President Bernie Machen is staying in Gainesville at the request of Gov. Rick Scott and UF Board of Trustees Chair David Brown.

Does this mean we couldn't find anyone good to replace him?
Somehow this is Abolverdi's fault.
I didn't read the article, but that is usually the case.
Most likely. There was an article in the Gainesville Sun a few weeks back that the search could end in failure. I think I posted it here.
Son of a *****
Wow! There goes the social life at UF. It's all over.
That's a decommit I could deal with.
Well this SUCKS. That man has done more to lower the morale and enjoyment of college football at UF than anyone in the history of Gator Sports.
And we wonder where all the enthusiasm has gone.

Headline: "Slimeball Orders Douche Stay Put"
I'm find with it IF the state will support us the way it should. I'm sorry other state schools but Florida DESERVES MORE MONEY that you. We are the best public school in the state without question. We need more money. Our state, which is soon to be the THIRD most populous, does not have a top ten public university. California has several including U of California (Cal), UCLA, and UC Davis, UC San Diego, & UC Santa Barbara. Texas has U of Texas who is borderline top ten. Florida has been battling with Penn State, Illinois, Texas, and Washington for the better part of a decade for that number 10 spot. It will take MONEY to push past them.
UF...ASSOC OF AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES MEMBER...3-TIME FOOTBALL NATL CHAMPION..2-TIME BASKETBALL NATL CHAMPION..33 ATHLETIC NATL CHAMPIONSHIPS!
I think I might puke.
Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga
I don't know if she's still there but if she is, promote from within... P.T.I.

Bernie Machen has done a great job of keeping UF moving forward despite 5 years of huge budget cuts. Hopefully Gov. Scott will provide the resources for UF to be able to compete on a level playing field with with the big ten public universities, UNC and the University of California state universities.
yeah, I don't quite understand all the Machen hate considering the budget cuts we had, but I don't know about the situation. Are most of the complaints here based on things he did related to the football program?
Gameday atmosphere, most likely. He pretty much did away with most of the easy binge drinking with some of the rules.
Helllllllll nooooooooooo. That lady is a whack job.
F' him and his block tuition. F' his response to state budget cuts and scholarship reductions by raising tuition. F' his public attacks on CLAS. F' his prudish crack down on the party atmosphere at UF.
Yeah I'd love to see Florida climb even higher among U.S. research universities and yeah I'd love to see us become the official flagship university in the state of Florida; but not at the cost of further destroying the college experience for students by whisking them through at record pace, further restricting undergraduate admission, and further crackdowns on student recreation.
It's no surprise to me that Scott is down on his knees begging Bernie to come back, if he'd loosen the purse strings just a bit I'd imagine he and Bernie would be the best of friends.
