Auburn Scout site confirming
And that's a first down!
This is the second time in a row they hired a coordinator of the previously fired head coach.
Gus gets around!
What a terrible hire. This is probably the worst coach they could have gotten. The only reason he had success at Auburn is the same reason Gene did. Lolol at him being an offensive coach. We will see how much success he has without a 5 star freshman sensation and one of the greatest players of our generation.
Trying to catch lightning in a bottle .... again
Paging Jaquay Williams!
I wonder if Smart turned it down or if they really wanted Malzahn the whole time. This is a terrible hire is my opinion and hopefully TN follows suit and hires someone just as bad as AU and Arky
Already at Texas A&M.
As for the hire... I like it. I thought Malzahn was a big part of the Auburn success. Cam was big, but Malzahn is a great offensive mind and will find a way to get points on the board. He needs to find an amazing DC though as that is not his specialty and he will need a great D in the SEC.

Lol at AU!
This is a good hire. He's a bright young mind. His offense has scored a lot of points everywhere he's been.
- He helped lead Arkansas to the SECCG in 2006.
- His teams averaged over 44 points a game in his two seasons at Tulsa.
- In his three seasons at Auburn, his offenses averaged 33.3, 41.2 and 25.7 points per game and won a national championship.
- This past year, he led Arkansas State to the Sun Belt title, including hanging 50 points on Louisiana-Lafayette.
- He basically invented the "Wildcat" offense and was an early adopter of the no huddle, hurry-up systems.
If he can bring in a good Defensive Coordiantor, he can win a lot of games.
Speaking of which, how about Gene Chizik? I hear he's available.

Billy the Kid, age 48,
5 SEC Championships,
2 National Championships...
Gus said "Shut up!!"
I think it's a pretty good hire, actually. Malzahn has been successful everywhere he has gone, while SEC programs have crumbled after he left (Arkansas, then Auburn).

Times a thousand. Anybody that believes Chizik jr. is a good hire, is smoking some serious dank.
Winningest Program in College Football since 1990!
Didn't Kentucky invent the wildcat?
Auburn's offense crumbled after Cam left.
I think Malzahn is as good a coach as Auburn can get considering their possible NCAA problems.
and Gus was like shut up!
First I remember the wildcat was with McFadden. Malzahn was there then?
I guess I'm the only guy that thinks this is a good hire. I think he will do well. Not Bama-well, but very good.
Auburn has been the 8-4 team for as long as I can remember with the occasional flash in the pan of an elite season.
I think Malzahn can and will get them back to their 8-4 status. Every single team can't be elite almost every year. But UF and Bama will be.
He was, came in with Mitch Mustain.
He won the Sun Belt and went 9-3 in his only year as HC at Arky State. He turned AU's offense into a good one his first year there. They were still pretty decent on offense without Cam, despite not really having much talent outside of him. He was great at Tulsa, won the SEC west in his one year at Arky as OC with a QB named Casey Dick.
The guy could end up being the spread version of Petrino. He's starting out the same way Fedora did.. I think its a good hire all things considered. He needs to hire a very good DC or keep Van Gorder if he's willing to stay. If he does, he will be good there imo.
Wonder if they even thought about calling Paul Rhoades. Would you really bring back Van Gorder after he did absolutely nothing with that defense this past year? I mean they didn't even have a heart beat. Call Tyrone Nix. Or Ellis Johnson.
He will be successful there and dont forget he coached their struggling Soph QB Khiel Frazier in high school...No joking but watch out for Khiel Frazier next year in the West, the defense over there will be depleted and all the good SEC region CB's will be in EAST. You can't under estimate, familiarity when it comes to QB's and coach, Gus will expose Khiel's talent and he will steal a big-time Dual Threat QB next year. 2013 QB Jeremy Johnson, will be pretty good too.
8-4 next season for Auburn IMO!!!
