Brent Pease

  • What grade would you I'll give Brent Pease in his first year as our OC?

I'd go with a solid B, because I honestly don't think he had much to work with overall.

I still want to believe in him, what do y'all think? I'm really really hoping our offense will look much improved next year anyone else think the same?

  • I still believe in him. He had some really bright moments and also some bad moments but I think the players have to take some of the blame for not always executing. I would probably give him a B too.

  • I would give him a B. My biggest gripe is he gets overly creative sometimes.

  • I would say its safe to say after our bowl performance we don't have to worry about any of our assistants leaving for hc jobs...that's a positive I guess...

B sounds about right. If we can fix our qb and oline problem he can do better.

I agree with this, but maybe if he can get some playmakers some of that creativity will pay off in the future

  • B+

    1000+ yard rusher.
Besides the bowl game and UGA he created a gameplay and stuck with it

Needs to figure out how to get his WR open

While Brent did a good job mixing up his play calling, statistically we didn't do any better than last year offensively and the only reason we won 11 games was because we didn't turn it over in most games. Mike G getting 1,000 yards is great, the thing is he didn't really split carries with any other RB.

As you can see when we did turn it over (UGA and Louisville) we lost

Brantley threw for around 2,000 yards, 11 td's and 7 ints last year

Driskel threw for around 1700 yards 12 td's and 5 int's this year

Brent looks like he could be good down the road, but based on this years performance he wasn't any better than Weis. The only thing we did was turn it over less and forced more turnovers and that's why we won more games.

We struggled to put up points against Bowling Green, ULL, JSU and Louisville.

Just an example of what I am talking about.

In the Louisville game we get the ball on the 1 after a qb sneak. The next play he lines up Hines to take a direct snap and runs a slow developing run to the outside. If it were me I just keep running at an undersized UL D.

  • I give him big credit for finally getting Omarius Hines involved. That guy should have been a main part of the offense long ago.

I also give him credit for making the wildcat work with Trey Burton. Some here still hate on the wildcat, but it has really produced for us. In past years, it wasn't much of anything.

Finally give him credit for installing a power running game that we haven't seen in a long time. The way we wore down LSU with a one dimensional offense was amazing. I love that kind of football. We also used the power running game to put the nail in FSU's coffin.

There were some very low points to the offense this year too, but let's face it, we have a QB that was pretty green and lacks field vision and pocket awareness, an OL that constantly whiffs on protection, a fairly brand new power running game and questionable WR play with little to no depth. Sorry for stating the obvious.

I'm excited to see how the addition of Joker Phillips can improve our passing game.

Well, yeah. We should have never gotten away from our power running game against UL. I can't believe that Gilly only had 8 friggin carries in that game.

My only guess is that the coaches got a little cocky thinking that we were actually going to make it happen with the downfield passing game and give Driskel some confidence going into next year. We should have stuck with the gameplan that got us this far. We would have worn UL down with the run.

  • 92% grade
Inherited perhaps the biggest nightmare I've seen in 2 decades

Had me believing we had a legit opportunity to win every game in August 2012

Works well with having his hands lightly tied by a power loving coach

Only slight knock is qb development or rather ah screw it, I don't care to hammer any one player. I'll say the qb talent isn't Pease's preferred talent so I can't knock him to hard for that(-8%).

He's attracted the biggest WR coaching name I've seen at UF- I know, not all him but he is the direct report of the WR coach

    Not a long poster
But the A grade needed support

    ThisGatorTrain

  • B, and he could easily go to an A next year. With our extreme lack of offensive firepower, it's hard to blame him or Jeff for not putting up big numbers. I believe there will be addition by both subtraction and addition, this year. The offense is a really good system, and when we have the O lineman, WR's, and experienced QB to run it we will be very dangerous and dare I say EXPLOSIVE.

Well, we could have as many as 8 new players starting on Offense next year so we will see how that dynamice changes it. It'll be Jeff's and BP's 2nd year running the offense too, so I believe it could change more than most think.

  • Louisville was playing with 8 men within 7 yards of the line of scrimmage. Charlie Strong made the decision that he was going to stop the run and force Driskel to pass to beat them. Smart coaching and it paid off. We have to develop a down field passing game or we will see the 8 man front every game next year.

    FBGator1

  • I dont know how much of that goes to smart coaching. I think that everyone could figure that out. Run game shut down= qb holding onto ball way too long and a o line that wasn't very good and resulting in an ugly loss. I like charlie strong but I think a lot of people could have come up with that great idea

    williar3

  • B, at least. He walked into a dumpster fire of an offense. While they were worse off statistically, this year's offense was clearly better than last year's. We may not have put up a lot of yards and points, but we were able to possess the ball very consistently this year.

    Steel Gator

  • Solid C to maybe C+. The running game kept us alive and we limited turnovers.

We got the ball to very few players in space all season.

We showed very little imagination or creativity in the passing game.

We underused Hines and Burton - two of our best.

Did anybody see the South Carolina game where the Cock had his guys throw for a TD on the play after a turnover??? Absolutely zero gunslinger mentality with our offense this year.

In the future we are gonna have to take some chances or we will be getting outscored more often and the stands at Florida Field will be half full every week.

If we can get some receivers to actually go down field and get open, and an O line to block long enough, then we will have that downfield passing game. We have several of both coming in, but Drob at WR would change the dynamic instantly, IMO.

  • B-.

I think his playcalling was a huge reason we won the aTm and LSU games in particular. Against aTm, you saw Pease stick with his gameplan and catch them off guard with the read option late in the game, while the young Kingsbury got way too pass happy. I came away from that game thinking Pease "out-dueled" him. And against LSU, he just schemed running plays LSU didn't have an answer for, especially the ones with those heavy formations.

Overall, I loved how we ran the football this year and eliminated the turnovers (for the most part), despite the noted lack of talent.

However, I can't say our QB and WR's developed from week-to-week like I thought they would and, as a whole, our passing game was pretty bad.

  • I'd give him a Run. Can't give him a Pass. Actually, I think he did a lot with what he had, showed some innovation and had many of us dreading the day he leaves. I'll go B
