If I'm a fan trolling and want some material to tear down UF's hoops program, I am copying and pasting this like crazy.

How the hell is The O'Dome a "bad arena?" Holds close to 13k. Student section is awesome. Place gets loud and intimidating. No bad sight lines. Located at the center of campus. It's clean and in good shape.

And UF is not a "football school." That's a myth. If that's all we cared about, our AD would not be busy tying up valuable real estate that could be used for the all-important indoor football practice facility worrying about trivial things like a lacrosse stadium, a dedicated basketball practice facility and a top-notch soccer/outdoor track arena. We're an all-sports school. And I like it that way. The average UF fan may care a bit more about football than any other sport, but that does not make us a "football school."

And what an obvious premise - "we need more NBA talent on our roster." Duh. Who doesn't? Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic upvoted this post.

This team has shown us this season that the talent and ability to win at high levels are there. NBA talent doesn't always equate to mental and emotional toughness. That's what this team lacks. Not an upper-echelon arena, a coach succeeding despite the odds being stacked against him, as your post insinuates....seriously, if UF could not support a basketball program, we wouldn't BE supporting a top-notch basketball program. I give Billy all the credit in the world for what he has done here and he is probably the best coach UF has ever employed, regardless of sport. But to insinuate he is just doing what he's done here with nothing more than a stiff upper lip and a lot of elbow grease is just dumb.

I still love you EB. This post just rubbed me the wrong way.

This is pretty much it in a nut shell^... +1
Everybody giving up on this team now is just stupid. Lol WE LOST AT RUPP!!! Y'all drive me crazy sometimes, fare weather fans is what it sounds like. I know that's not the case for the most part but let's get real here. Everyone will be riding high come SEC tourney time and if we win it everyone will be ready to cut the nets down. I seen someone say we where gonna drop to a 5 seed lol... Shit now, think about that for a second. We are at least gonna be a 3 seed no matter what. So you all can put the gun down or step back from the ledge. This UF bball team will be just fine. And I do expect us to make it to the Final 4... I truly do, and if we don't I will get over it and be thankful for what they have accomplished. We do this every year in bball, even the title teams lost a few down the stretch they shouldn't have. If I'm not mistaken if UF wins the SEC tourney they will have the 2nd best record ever for UF? Awful lot to complain about lol.

  • I remember all the fans who thought we'd be one and done in the SEC and NCAA tourney after our late season collapse last year. In Billy I trust. Would have been nice to sweep Kensucky during their worst team in years.

  • I'll get trashed for this bc everyone hates the truth and this guy alone. billy D is very Roy Williams like, neither call TO's and both have great teams that always go pretty deep in march but they both need a GREAT NBA Talent to win it all. UNC has had talent and could have won it last year if they werent at their 4th string PG, but made it elite 8 elite or deeper. Billy won 2 titles with Noah Hoford and co, since then he hasnt had the same level as talent besides for 1 and done Brad Beal but yet made it far last year.

The odome is average even in the sec man...sorry but as far as great basketball arenas....the odome isn't one. The renovation is so desperately needed. Bad video screens, cheap looking. I love being there, but its not an elite gym by any means. The renovation looks awesome and will make the odome probably the best arena besides rupp in the sec...but right now is kind of blah. Especially after looking across the street at the swamp which is one of the best stadiums.

Rupp is older than the O & showing its age as well. The Cat fans I was with at the game say a renovation is in the works there as well. However, Rupp is for basketball, not track, swimming ect...Great place to go to a game, connected to the Hyatt, restaurants, bars ect...Just a super atmosphere before the game. People were really great before & after the game. 25k fans each game was just awesome. Def a top 2 program. Plus the program lacks for nothing. Tough to compete against this for Fla. Better thank God Billy stayed at UF. Give him those resources - watch out!

  • Personally I don't want a team full of 1 and done NBA talent. I don't mind taking a 1 and done every year but I don't want 3-4 if them
Like UK. Even if that means we are a elite 8 team every year with a final 4 every 5-6 years. I think the 1 and done rule is bad for college basketball and don't want our program run like that.

There really was no excuse to lose this game. We could have emptied the bench and scored 4 pts in the last 7 mins. These guys better learn hiw to finish fast or they are going to waste an oppurtunity to have a special year.

I expect next years team to be way better than this years. Scottie has done great for the most part all year but he doesn't seem to have enough arrogance to finish close games. He needs to get more confidence.

Go Gators! This team can beat anyone in the country if they play fast and move the ball around but if they don't they could go out in the first round.

Name these coaches that have won multiple championships w/o elite players.

Agreed here...you have to have elite talent to win six games in march. Or at least very good talent. We got to the title game vs Michigan State and I actually think we had more talent that year than them though but didn't pull it out. But you don't win college titles without a few NBA players.

Who knows...Maybe Young ends up a decent NBA player and Murphy becomes a Bonner type player...is that enough for a title darn it :P.

    This season? I believe so.

UFs draw/matchups will be a bigger factor than a difference in talent.

This year few teams have a load of NBA talent. UK and UCLA are too inconsistent to worry about. Kansas has two future NBA guys, Indiana has two, Duke has three(Plumlee, Kelly, Curry). So Duke is the only one when matched up against us talent could be worrisome. Other than that...we can hang with anyone talent wise because our players are vets...especially in the tourney.

I do still feel like the two straight elite eight endings will motivate this team to make the final four..I think they will do everything they can to make sure they earn a rafter spot.

The teams that make me worry are tough, physical teams, that attack the boards.

True. We need to box out better than we have been. Mine is simple...good defensive guards on the other team..how do we score. We clearly can't rely on Young or Murphy cause those two should have gotten 20+ each last game and we didn't put the game in their hands. If our guards are guarded all game...we may be screwed.

That is some good analysis. The thing that caught my eye yesterday was Goodwin and Boynton.

For as bad as Goodwin has looked against us, he consistently had the guards on tilt. He is wild and out of control a lot , but he is dead set on attacking the middle of the lane. This gave WCS more chances to be effective on the offensive glass.

Boynton's defense just wasn't there, down the stretch. UF is good at taking charges, but in a gm where the refs were swallowing their whistles, I didn't get why he pretty much gave his guy the right hand drive to take, whenever he wanted.

My worry with Boynton is I think Billy loves the kid a little to much. I mean they've been together four years and he is a good kid. But I think Donovan has to know that the ball can't be in his hands at the end of games because he struggles in these situations SO frequently...but he doesn't want to tell the kid not to touch the ball or put him on the bench cause Boynton has done a lot for us. Still..his value over replacement(like a war stat) in the last two minutes has to be off the charts bad by now.

I couldn't believe he shot that last shot, in that fashion, yesterday. He never even intended on making the best basketball play, it was straight hero ball.

He always does that. He had two turnovers at Arizona and took an incredibly stupid three with 3 seconds left ending the game. At Mizzou he took another bad contested shot instead of passing and getting an open man. Inside 2 minutes he always ends up with the ball in his hands and almost never makes a smart decision...it's to the point where if I see it in Boynton's hands I instantly get up and go make a drink because there is absolutely no question we just lost because he will make an incredibly horrible mistake.

I love Kenny...for 38 minutes. But inside 2...get him as far from the ball as possible..put him on the team bus so he can not negatively effect the game pleaseeee ;/.

No one said it's a bad place to play fans wise. Just the basketball part of the center is rather....meek. The renovations are very much needed. Looks more high school than elite college level. Which will change soon!! Kind of hope we can make it to where the tv faces the rowdy reptiles so people can see one of the best student sections in the country instead of the old alumni sitting all game and occasionally clapping(why do alumni not make a lot of noise...come on old tymers you can sleep all week to prepare for a few hours of yelling! :P).
