If I'm a fan trolling and want some material to tear down UF's hoops program, I am copying and pasting this like crazy.
How the hell is The O'Dome a "bad arena?" Holds close to 13k. Student section is awesome. Place gets loud and intimidating. No bad sight lines. Located at the center of campus. It's clean and in good shape.
And UF is not a "football school." That's a myth. If that's all we cared about, our AD would not be busy tying up valuable real estate that could be used for the all-important indoor football practice facility worrying about trivial things like a lacrosse stadium, a dedicated basketball practice facility and a top-notch soccer/outdoor track arena. We're an all-sports school. And I like it that way. The average UF fan may care a bit more about football than any other sport, but that does not make us a "football school."
And what an obvious premise - "we need more NBA talent on our roster." Duh. Who doesn't? Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic upvoted this post.
This team has shown us this season that the talent and ability to win at high levels are there. NBA talent doesn't always equate to mental and emotional toughness. That's what this team lacks. Not an upper-echelon arena, a coach succeeding despite the odds being stacked against him, as your post insinuates....seriously, if UF could not support a basketball program, we wouldn't BE supporting a top-notch basketball program. I give Billy all the credit in the world for what he has done here and he is probably the best coach UF has ever employed, regardless of sport. But to insinuate he is just doing what he's done here with nothing more than a stiff upper lip and a lot of elbow grease is just dumb.
I still love you EB. This post just rubbed me the wrong way.

The odome is average even in the sec man...sorry but as far as great basketball arenas....the odome isn't one. The renovation is so desperately needed. Bad video screens, cheap looking. I love being there, but its not an elite gym by any means. The renovation looks awesome and will make the odome probably the best arena besides rupp in the sec...but right now is kind of blah. Especially after looking across the street at the swamp which is one of the best stadiums.

I'll get trashed for this bc everyone hates the truth and this guy alone. billy D is very Roy Williams like, neither call TO's and both have great teams that always go pretty deep in march but they both need a GREAT NBA Talent to win it all. UNC has had talent and could have won it last year if they werent at their 4th string PG, but made it elite 8 elite or deeper. Billy won 2 titles with Noah Hoford and co, since then he hasnt had the same level as talent besides for 1 and done Brad Beal but yet made it far last year.

Agreed here...you have to have elite talent to win six games in march. Or at least very good talent. We got to the title game vs Michigan State and I actually think we had more talent that year than them though but didn't pull it out. But you don't win college titles without a few NBA players.
Who knows...Maybe Young ends up a decent NBA player and Murphy becomes a Bonner type player...is that enough for a title darn it :P.

This year few teams have a load of NBA talent. UK and UCLA are too inconsistent to worry about. Kansas has two future NBA guys, Indiana has two, Duke has three(Plumlee, Kelly, Curry). So Duke is the only one when matched up against us talent could be worrisome. Other than that...we can hang with anyone talent wise because our players are vets...especially in the tourney.
I do still feel like the two straight elite eight endings will motivate this team to make the final four..I think they will do everything they can to make sure they earn a rafter spot.

True. We need to box out better than we have been. Mine is simple...good defensive guards on the other team..how do we score. We clearly can't rely on Young or Murphy cause those two should have gotten 20+ each last game and we didn't put the game in their hands. If our guards are guarded all game...we may be screwed.

That is some good analysis. The thing that caught my eye yesterday was Goodwin and Boynton.
For as bad as Goodwin has looked against us, he consistently had the guards on tilt. He is wild and out of control a lot , but he is dead set on attacking the middle of the lane. This gave WCS more chances to be effective on the offensive glass.
Boynton's defense just wasn't there, down the stretch. UF is good at taking charges, but in a gm where the refs were swallowing their whistles, I didn't get why he pretty much gave his guy the right hand drive to take, whenever he wanted.

My worry with Boynton is I think Billy loves the kid a little to much. I mean they've been together four years and he is a good kid. But I think Donovan has to know that the ball can't be in his hands at the end of games because he struggles in these situations SO frequently...but he doesn't want to tell the kid not to touch the ball or put him on the bench cause Boynton has done a lot for us. Still..his value over replacement(like a war stat) in the last two minutes has to be off the charts bad by now.

Bottom line: We need more NBA talent on our roster
