Big Shakeup in South Florida HS Football

Breaking/Developing: Sources close to situation say Mark Guandolo has been hired by Orlando Edgewater to be head football coach.

this is shocking, especially since he just got cypress bay to the state title game after building that program up for years

coach G has been coaching in sofla for like 20 years, seriously doubt if that's what he was trying to do that he'd still be coaching down here

fun fact: his son by the same name was once a gator walk on QB, but I don't think he even lasted a year

Mark Guandolo interviewed, but has not accepted the job at Edgewater. Will make decision this week whether or not to stay at Cypress Bay

Interesting Gibbons. There was an article in the Orlando Sentinel about the open HC jobs at HS's here in Orlando. No name was mentioned as a prospect at Edgewater. Have beautiful facilities in the College Park area of town (upscale area) with good football resources & a very good talent pool.
Only 5 of the 17 open positions have been filled as of yesterday. Biggest surprise move was by Phil Ziegler of Boone High to Hagerty after being at Boone for 23 yrs.

  • I am actually surprised the Clermont East Ridge job is still open-they let go Coach Bud O'Hara after 11 years and only his 2nd losing season ever(his other losing season was his first in 2002) they just opened a new high school and split the 2 existing high schools and East Ridge was hit hardest

lot's of HC jobs open still in Central Florida High School Football

    And that's a first down!

Yea - that was the other one that surprised me. Bud built a nice program at ER. The Olympia job is still open too. Nice facilities, good part of town. Wouldn't be surprised if Bud got that one.

Why would someone go there? O'Hara had winning seasons 9 out of 11 times and got fired. Potential coaching prospects have to be worried about what happens if we don't win right away,

Unfortunately Orange County told Ziglar he couldn't return next year due to having semi-retirement status. It was not his or the school's choice.

One of the main reasons Edgewater had a super strong program was because a lot of kids in the Evans district slipped into the Edgewater district due to Gierke being the head coach & poor school rating. Now they've re built Evans school & facilities & are able to keep kids at home now & upgraded the coaching staffs. I think one of the Gierke boys is coaching at Evans again & Chuckie Atkins is the basketball HC. Ton of Athletes in that district & they've produced a ton of Gators, Nole & Canes. Evans used to rule the Metro Conf. Now Wekiva & Ocoee HS 's have watered down several districts.

Technically Haseem Clinton-Dix but they've had other kids like Mike Walker, Kenny Ingram, Aaron Jones, Matt Hardrick, Greg Matthews, Lorenzo Edwards, Michael Brewster, Jeremiah Schwartz, Mike Jones, Henry Wright, Quincy McDuffie, EJ Dunston, Pig Howard

Pig howard would be the most recent.

I was referring back to the days when they had ingram, aaron jones, hardrick etc. IIRC they went to states

I still remember the battles with FSU over Hardrick who ended up being a huge bust, and the photo-controversy over at warchant when gene williams swore he had a pic of zook speaking to Aaron Jones on the field in the swamp at the state title game and he sent it to the NCAA only to be laughed at

    good times

Yea - Pig was the most recent - at TN. Real good kid, still see him alot when he's home on break. Played on our AAU hoops team a couple of summers which was coached by Vic Floyd (FSU tailback). Sean Culkins (MO. football) was also on the same team. Pretty physical team we had!!
