Anyone else believe what Phil Steele does...

  • That Florida can win the SEC East with either QB and that we have a pretty good receivers.

    kevumc

  • Winning the East is possible with a lil luck on our side and staying relatively injury free. Still think Jawja or Souf Cack wins it. Our WRs have to walk it before they can talk it. JMO

  • He's basing most of it on our OL being dominant. If our OL really does step up and act like the star studded cast that it is, he may be right.

But it's been so long since I've seen our OL move anyone around that I just dont know

  • I think we can, there's no question. Doesn't seem like SC or UGA are all world like Bama or LSU from the west. My only concern is UGA s rink a dink schedule comparatively.

  • Call me crazy, but until UF doesn't show improvement in the TAMU and UT games, I'm inclined to think we're going to be pleased with the team this year. I think Florida can/will win the east and that UGa will finish no higher than 3rd. South Carolina gets a tough draw with Arky and LSU but they'll be the team to beat IYAM. And lets not overlook UT. I don't want to admit it, but they'll win some games even with Double D coaching and that poor excuse for an SEC defense.

For the same reasons I am afraid of TAMU, UGa should be afraid of Mizzou. They travel to Columbia, for the first ever SEC game there, against a good team with a great coaching staff and a prolific offense. On paper, UGa should beat Mizzou. But, on paper UGa should have beaten Boise last season.

-On a side note, the Uga-Boise game is on youtube in its entirety and you can really see the genius of the Boise offense and the talent of Kellen Moore. UGa dominated that OLine and still Boise scored points. We are in very good hands with Pease and that Boise offense.

    Goldengator

  • The Dazzler and Weis eras have beat down our expectations to pre-Spurrier lows.

The Pease era will raise them back up.

Plenty of talent on the Offense. Plenty of playmakers.

Phil Steele sees talent + (boise like) scheme and predicts success.

Its coming. Whether its this year or next will depend on the arrival of Driskell and/or Brissett.

I'll say this for Steele, he has pretty much pegged us right every season starting with 2007.

I agree on South Carolina and Georgia. I am not 100% convinced Connor Shaw is the man and without Jeffrey I cant see to much of a dominant passing game and with Lattimore coming off of a knee injury, i cant imagine him being to his form from day 1.

I never believe Georgia whether expectations are high or low, ESPECIALLY when they are high. I will see when I believe it.

I think the 3 teams are closer than it seems, with Georgia playing a joke of a schedule you would think they have an edge, but then again it is Georgia.

End the end I think it comes down to South Carolina and Florida.

That Florida can win the SEC East with either QB and that we have a pretty good receivers.

WRs are guys who are around 6' and can run. Every major program has plenty of WRs. When Bob Stoops showed up at OU a traditional running program that had been down for a number of years, he found enough WRs to be good right away. When Hal Mumme recruited Tim Couch to UK, he found Craig Yeast wasting away on the roster. The issue with WR is ultimately will you coach them up and dare to throw to whomever is open.

Whether UF can do ok with either QB this year is a tougher question. To me Bissett looked better than Driskel last season. But what matters is who after a year of coaching is most ready to play. We really do not know the answer to that.

As for winning the East, it probably will take some luck and teams beating each other. I do not see UF steam rolling through the East.

  • I don't think UGA is a top 5 team at all. I think they're actually pretty similar to us. Talent wise the only position I think they have a clear cut advantage at is QB and we dont have a Jarvis Jones but I that's it. I would pick USCe to win the east if I were a betting man but it's hard to pick against UGA because of that schedule.

  • Phil Steele is in love with our defensive line. Apparently he said last night that our 3rd string would be a top 25 unit in the nation.

Your DL is nasty but that seems like a stretch. I'm sure most of your 3rd stringers haven't even played a game yet.

That's what made everyone raise their eyebrows. None of them have played a down. It's casher, Edwards, nls, and Goldman.

    ^ This!

I was very disappointed last year when he had us finishing unranked! I thought no way was that possible. I was extremely excited when I saw he has us #10 and explained all the reasons why.

Steele has turned into an attention whore, and IMO, he hasn't done as good of a job over the past few years as he had previously.

He's definitely an attention whore! I don't like a lot of the things he puts in his mag. I didn't even buy it this year. His team capsules have far too much irrelevant information.

That said, he's been pretty accurate about UF.
