Am I the only one who hopes Brent Pease...

  • takes a few notes from Kyle Shannahan and the Skins' offense!??

  • I think he has. We saw a lot of read option, some pistol, and some diamond formation.

49ers offense, too. I just wish we'd use even more of that stuff. The formations still allow teams to have a downhill rushing attack, but I think it's also well-suited to Driskel's talents at QB.

  • That offense is actually taken from Nevada, who Pease has said he has gleaned a lot from.

  • I've been harping on this a lot for the last week ... there are a lot of these elements already in Florida's offense. Now, Florida doesn't run as much pistol as these teams, but I believe that's because Gillislee is better suited to running out of the shotgun than the pistol.

But there's a common denominator in these offenses -- Chris Ault's Nevada offense.

Yup, i saw a few of Nevada's games on TV out here in Cali, Kapernick did a great job running that offense.

Why is Gilislee better suited for the shotgun?

That's speculation on my part simply based on Florida not using the pistol more ... my guess is the reason we don't see more pistol is because Gillislee is more effective running out of the I or shotgun.

I just don't understand how that would be. If Gilislee's a "traditional I back," as Kenny Carter called him, I don't understand why he couldn't run our of the pistol. It's the same downhill running concepts just with the QB in the shotgun.

Could be the blockers, too. Or maybe they just don't think running out of the pistol helps as much. Again, just speculation on my part as to why Florida hasn't done more of it.

  • I don't think Gillislee was an issue. I think he is as versatile as they come until you talk about catching the ball...
