  • Reminds me of what Udonis Haslem said.

Haslem: “I’m always going to be a Hurricane” | ONLY GATORS Get Out Alive

From 1998 to 2002, Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem attended the University of Florida and played basketball for the Florida Gators. He was so

WTF? I understand that childhood loyalties are sometimes difficult to move beyond, but bro you play for Florida!!! While I find this very irritating from a current member of the football team, I think it's just plain stupid for a dude who's currently suspended following an arrest to make himself even more unlikeable to Gator fans.

  • My brother and I were both raised UT Vols (family of grads and fans from Tenn). We also both attended Florida, mostly because of the Bright Futures scholly. To this day, he is a die hard Vol fan despite attending Florida, and even the Vols in the family think that it's ridiculous. Thing is, HE DIDN'T PLAY FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM, and it's still ridiculous that he roots for another school. SMH.

  • What about all the recruits who "grew up a Gator fan" and chose rival schools?

    True.

It all depends on the person, really. I'm not gonna fault a man for growing up a fan of one school and playing for another. Loyalties are all jumbled up nowadays.

Hell, if I were a top recruit, I couldn't promise I'd pick UF over USCw, NC State or GT, just cause I like big cities, especially Atlanta.

Florida got the guys signature, can't ask for much more than that.

I'm obviously just making a joke, not asking for the guys head

however putting stuff like that out on social networks probably wouldn't get a good reaction from the die hards

Who knows? Should AC keep his mouth shut about that? Probably. But he can cheer for a WNBA team for all he wants if he's scoring touchdowns in games while wearing a Florida uniform...

  • Wasn't it Clinton Portis who said he grew up a Florida fan but chose to go to Miami because they offered him as a RB? Every year kids say one team has been their childhood favorite but pick a different team to sign with. I dont really see the big deal here.

Kid has maintained his childhood allegiance, and that's his business and whatever (though I still think it's stupid). My issue with it, is how does he possibly think that saying he will always be a Hurricane fan will endear him to the team he plays for now?

    jpengwyn25

  • This is just setting up for when he gets the boot and tries to transfer to Miami. "Realtalk"

Just plain dumb for a kid to say this where he knows tons of Gator fans will see it. Whether true or not, it just shows he's not very bright. Considering his current situation, he probably would do well to have Gators on his side.

  • The difference between Udonis and AC is Udonis was/is only a UM football fan, which isn't the sport he played. I'm assuming AC is saying he's a UM football fan...which is the sport he plays.

Read up...this has been addressed already.

There is a difference between growing up loving a team but going elsewhere to play football and switching allegiances and maintaining your love for a rival while playing for the other team

  • I have no issue with it, I played at ucf but have been and always will be a die hard uf fan. Now I realize the differences in competition level tradition etc... Even on the team a lot of guys cheered for their hometown team or one they always rooted for. But when it came to practicing, games, and overall unity you don't go through all the hard work together and not truly want to win on the team your on.

  • I believe Haslem lived in Jacksonville for a little while, and played at Wolfson high school before going back to miami.

  • Also for the guy who said he cannot understand how his boy still roots for the Vols after he went to florida. Well the same thing happens in all of the state schools with canes, gators, and Noles going to their rivals school for college, but still loving the team they grew up watching. Whenever you go to tallahassee you see lots of gator license plates around town. Edit: Oh yeah Patrick Robinson had a tattoo of the hurricanes that he got while in high school.

That is what I was thinking.

We play Miami next year. Would he be cheering for our defense to stop Miami?

I like AC as a player and not trying to be critical, but man that seems weird.

Exactly, it's a huge conflict of interest. If he's rooting for them when he's not on the field, then we have a serious problem.

Yup he moved to Jville at the age of 9 and played there his freshman and soph years before moving back to miami and winning states back to back years on those infamous miami high teams his jr and sr year.
