Gators CB Willie Bailey to transfer

Willie Bailey

Freshman cornerback Willie Bailey has decided to transfer from Florida.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- True freshman cornerback Willie Bailey has decided to transfer from the program after sitting out in his first season on campus.

"Willie Bailey has decided to transfer," coach Will Muschamp said. "He and I met last week and he felt like he wanted to move on and we'll support him in that.."

Bailey, a 6-foot, 172-pound player from Hallandale figured to be a bit of a project as a lean cornerback.

Florida has several talented cornerbacks already on the roster, including junior Jaylen Watkins and sophomores Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson, who have all notched multiple starts and are all expected to return in 2013.

The Gators also boast a commitment from Vernon Hargreaves III, the top cornerback in the country and the No. 6 player in the Top 247. Florida is also still recruiting MacKensie Alexander and Jalen Ramsey, ranked No. 30 and 34 in the Top 247, respectively.

Bailey is the 16th player to transfer from Florida during Muschamp's two-year tenure. He is the fifth transfer in the past calendar year.

    • I honestly don't care lol

This is why i don't get all crazy like a lot of people here when a guy commits, because a lot of these guys don't pan out or measure up to their recruiting ranks.

It's nice to get the high ranked guys, but until they show it on the field they're just another player.

DeMarcus Robinson could have been another Percy Harvin caliber player, or he could be another Andre Debose.

Well, Bailey was always going to be a long-term project.

    • People look at guys who De-commit or transfer as a bad thing....it's not. Some kid just don't have the drive to want to come in and face real competition. It shouldn't matter how many guys sign, if you feel like you have what it takes then continue to work hard and push yourself, it will all pay off. But the whole week commit then De-commit with DeMarcus Robinson just rubs me wrong. That kind of activity I don't like.

Sometimes coaches misevaluate kids, too. It's not always as simple as work hard and it'll pay off.

True enough Thomas, but at the end of it all, who decision is it to sign with the school...the kid. If you get a offer from UF, I'm sure you have many from other schools. They have to take there time and see which school they have the best chance at. But great point.
