In an expected move, Homestead (Fla.) five-star wide receiver Ermon Lane decommitted from the Florida Gators Friday evening over his Twitter account with the following message.
“No Hard Feelings But I Just Decommitted From The University Of Florida . Not Because Dalvin Cook. No lie I love gator nation. #OneLove”
Lane committed to Florida in August and remained firm on his pledge through much of the rough 4-8 season the Gators experienced in 2013. After firing offensive coordinator Brent Pease and seeing fellow Miami-Dade County five-star Dalvin Cook waver off his pledge to Florida, many expected Lane to soon follow.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Lane helped explain the reason for opening up his recruitment again in a the following text message to 247Sports.
"I just want what's best for me, I want to be comfortable & feel [at] home. TRUST is a big part in the process also my family has to be comfortable about my decision & they were a lil shaky about it. no lie I love gator nation but it's life"
At this time, many believe Florida State to be the school to leader for Lane, 247Sports’ No. 31 overall prospect in the nation, as the Seminoles are scheduled to get his only official visit on January 31.
This leaves Florida with only one receiver committed in their 2014 class with Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona three-star prospect Ryan Sousa.
