A day after completing his official visit to the University of Florida, 247Sports has confirmed that Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland linebacker Quinton Powell and the Gators have parted ways. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder originally committed to Florida back in February, but had long desired to take other visits.
He had mentioned trips to see Southern California and Miami as possible destinations despite being a Florida commit. There were also reports during the fall that Powell was not high on Florida adding a fourth linebacker to the class.
Sunday the Gators added Briar Woods (Ashburn, Va.) four-star outside linebacker Matt Rolin to a class that also included First Coast (Jacksonville, Fla.) inside linebacker Daniel McMillian, Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln inside linebacker James Hearns as well as Powell at the time.
247Sports currently ranks Powell as the nation’s No. 180 prospect overall and the No. 14 outside linebacker.
